I live in Oklahoma, were it's flat, hot, and extremely humid. Not sure how i ended up with one. The dealer sent me a pic of the bike in the crate the morning it came in, and i left with it that afternoon..lol The manual is big and easy to read, unlike the smc manual i had.

Paul: what kind of bass are you using on the rear fender and tank? Look like Wolfman bags.

85 is pleanty speed for me thank you...

At 13/50 85 was not hard but there was not much left. I imagine 90 is close to the top.

Hey Dan, they are both Wolfman, I love the fender bag, but this is the first time for the tank bag on a long ride on the 500 and for me on this bike it was a bit in the way, I waved off the saddlebags for this ride and after riding my bike and sitting on Ed's, the Daytripper saddlebags from Wolfman are for me the way to go.

For a taller guy like you, the tank bag will probably be fine, but after riding the 500 at the track my style with this bike is up on the tank.

I SPRY PAINTED THE TRIPLE CLAMPS WITH 1 CAN ENGINE ENAMEL HALF A CAN OF CLEAR ..
ON THE REAR SHOCK I USED A PAINT MADE FOR PLASTIC
BOTH ARE HOLDING UP TO ENGINE DEGREASER AND WD40
I FINALLY BOUGHT THE LONGER CHAIN AND NEW REAR SPROCKET
I SWEAR HALF THE FUN OF THIS BIKE IS PARTYING IN THE GARAGE STARING AT IT THINKING WHAT CAN I BUY NEXT LOL

Appreciate the replies. I'll give the 14 - 48 a go and see how it is. Overall I'm really happy with the bike (I do notice the reduced ground clearance compared to the older 525 EXC when going over logs and rocks) but I miss the arm-stretching snappy response I had on the KX450F.

Recently rode up in Cloudcroft NM... the Rim Trail is great. The bike certainly didn't like the altitude though. Backfired like it did before the desmog. Tried richening it up with the JD tuner which made a slight improvement but still very disappointing compared to near sea level riding. Even tried the 'Wild' plug from Sickass and it made no difference to performance at all. Off to the dealer this weekend hopefully to have the Australian unlocked map installed and will see how the 'Wild' plug goes then. Will check/replace the 20 micron fuel filter to see if it's blocked and install a tank sock filter just in case that was the problem.

My 500 XC-W with the stock 13-50 gearing will go 95 mph flat out on a paved road with my 300lbs azz on it.
