GS yellow paint alternatives?

Any one got any ideas of a match for the yellow on the airhead GS? Dealer here is clueless. I am painting the 'roo bar, fork lowers, and headlight grill so the color will be consistent, not worried about one piece not matching another. Thought of taking a sample of yellow to my autoparts store, finding a close match with a GM, Ford, import, etc. color code, and having a rattle can prepared. Thoughts?

What I do is take a part to my local auto paint store (where you buy the paint). They will have a gizmo that will optically scan the part and produce a paint code which they can then mix for you. They can also advise you on the best clearcoat for your application.

This site has paint codes etc. for BMW's. There are also auto paint shops that will color match paints and sell you a spray can with the color you want. Usually you need to leave them a sample of bodywork with the right color. Not cheap but not horrible, last can I got was $25, $10 for match and $15 for the paint. JT

I have a Bumblebee and I have found that Ford's Carnary Yellow is damn near dead on. Go to an autobody supply store and hold it up to a color chip. If you are willing to pay big money, contact Holt BMW. If you want it done professionally, I've been painting 20+ years and can turn it around in a week.

Thanks, el Pondoroso. I found a '02 Mazda color (H7, I think) was also close. I did check into paint chips and found that a Ford yellow was a close match (I think I came up with 'Chrome' yellow, but it was a Ford chip). I might try the 'canary'. Any idea what year Ford used this color?

Ford color

I saw the color on a 2002 Ford truck. Mazda and Ford often use the same colors, since they are basically the same company. I think you found it.

bumblebeemer yellow?

Hey Bikejunkie,
I was dealing with the same question earlier this year. You could probably search the forum. Note that all of the above are news to me. I personally found two yellows that are very close, using the seat vinyl as the reference: federal safety yellow, IE schoolbus yellow (available at most car parts stores), and John Deere yellow (available where you buy John Deere parts). In the end, I bought a set of sliders that are yellow, and still haven't installed them.

Cheers -

Go to local TSC store (or any John Deere tractor dealer) and get JD Tractor Yellow - damn close. Did mine with it

AS was stated earlier, we did this some time ago, I am sure I found the Paint code and entered it here. Did you do a search?
