If it was ever going to come loose it would have this weekend as the jarring was enough to puncture a bottle of water I had in it. Now I have to solve that issue, I guess putting it in a length of PVC pipe and capping the ends might work.

my mom once drove in to my parked bike with her car, popped the left alu case right off...
however it did not seem to have broken the lock, so or i forgot to lock it (i dont think so but still) or it popped of without damage...

Vario Top & Side Cases
I have had the Vario top and side cases on my bike for about three years now and have never experienced a problem.

Picture below shows the BMW retrofit pin described in pictorial. It is designed for the older Vario cases, to prevent them from moving fore-aft and slipping off the latch. To the best of my knowledge, newer cases already have this "centering pin", as BMW calls it. ![]() As I mentioned before, there is also the "enduro kit", which simply bolts the case to the rack plate, but makes it non-removable. Some inmates here report on installing a spring pin + clip assembly, which resembles the enduro kit, but makes removal easier. That is not what is described in the above pictorial. Robert.

Happened to me on my 2004 Adventure with BMW Adventure bags. Came to a stop at a stop sign, heard something behind me, looked over my shoulder to see my right pannier sliding up to the stop sign right behind me. Put a thick layer of tape on the upper bar that the bag slides under. I tightened it up enough to where the bag no longer wants to come off. I check the bags everyday to make sure they are still tight though.

I lost a Givi V35 off my Versys once. Hit a pot hole so mean it bent both my front and rear rims. Everyone who saw the aftermath was amazed I kept it up.
I lost a side case on my GSA once, but it was user error. Forgot to lock it, and under braking at about 35 MPH, I hear something sliding down the road next to me. HELLO Mr. Sidecase! It slide about 30ft. on the asphalt, but unless you look closely, you can't tell which one took a dive.

You can not remove the key from the aluminum Adventure panniers unless the latch is locked.
