There's a few scaled P-51 replicas flying to good effect behind big block V8 auto engines; crate race motors and the like. Permits the original lines and respectable performance.






Seems something similar could have been used with this full size replica. Probably more cost effective, too.

For all the trouble the designer spent to create a look-alike the final product is severely undermined by the funky nose and oddly scaled prop.

those 3/4 scale mustangs are just wrong. We have one at the museum I work at. I tell people its a remote controlled airplane sometimes or a non functional model. I really wish we would just sell or trade it for something useful, like a pickup truck or a keg of beer.

The ones from the 90's with the dry sumped Merlin alloy big blocks.. cannot remember who did them!!!!

They are fast, approaching 400 MPH in racing trim, and they are very sexy as well.





Race 75 was destroyed in an accident at Reno in 2010. He lost the engine on the last lap, tried to make a 180 to land, but the winds that day were in the 30-40 knot range, and the aircraft bounced, floated, and cartwheeled. George Giboney, who owned and flew it, walked away with just minor bruises and scrapes.

Here's a story with some great pics of the crash, but the facts are completely wrong. This was no takeoff accident.
