Fantastic thread
My digitizer crapped out and this tutorial was fantastic. The only thing I noticed is that the torx needed to remove the 8 screws in mine were #6 not #7. I have a Garmin 550. Digitizer screen was easy to find on e-bay. I paid a little more to have mine shipped from Minnesota instead of China as I needed it quickly. Thanks for the great pictures and text.

My too sense ....
Thank you!! Thank you for posting this thread.
My 550 did the same thing, no matter how hard I touched the screen the results were not what I wanted. After a bit of deliberation, a phone call (39 minutes on hold, waiting to talk to someone) to Garmin, the best offer was the $150 refurbished unit. There was absolutely no deal to upgrade to a 660 or 665. Maybe others might have better luck, or have you had better luck? I ordered off ebay, the ones shipped from Minnesota, glass and touch screen complete, delivered in three days for free. Okay the cost was $45, but it did arrive when stated, and it works fine. The only difference I found was there seemed to be sort of a sheet of thin foam rubber all around the edges, instead of the formed rubber gasket that mine has had from new. I put the screen in with the new foam, instead of my old gasket, fits perfectly. Having bought into the "Lifetime Maps" for my 550, I'm a happy camper that it's not going to be, as mentioned, a paperweight. Again, thank you so much for starting and maintaining this thread! Liz |

I can't get the big ribbon to lock in. The white flap goes down but don't lock in. There seem to be no slot to slide in like the small one. Is it secured by pressure?
Help,Help!!!!! Never mind brother in-law got it for me!!!!!!!

Well, all's not well. My replacement Zumo screen froze up again. It worked fine for a few days into a ride then started having the same problem. Anyone have any ideas, how many have you replaced to get a good one? Are these replacement screens of lesser quality?? Maybe rejects??

Last holiday my Zumo 500 started to freak out after 4 years and 40.000km, couldn't select anything and it started to randomly make new favorite locations.
Too bad I was 1100km's away from home and it happened in the first of 3 weeks holiday. I made it home without any problems, but it was a long ride without my MP3 music ![]() Last week I ordered a new screen + digitizer in Hong Kong (I didn't want to mess with just replacing the digitizer). Hopefully this will fix the problem. Still thinking about selling it and buying a new Garmin Zumo 660...
