Not a good pic, but recent. I was first there in 1974, two years short of legal drinking age, but mum's the word!!!

The Portsmouth Hoy, Poole.

The Portsmouth Hoy

The Portsmouth Hoy is a traditional old world pub hosting a timeless and restful quality to the prevailing mood found in this popular pub. The decor is predominantly dark wood constructed in a style reminiscent of an old sailing ship. Many artefacts relating to the nautical and aquatic life can be seen placed around the walls.

The Travellers Rest, Fareham.

The Travellers Rest.

This tiny Pub ceased trading during the 1970's and was converted into residential accomidation during the 1980's.

The original Brickwoods Brewrey tiled facia can still be seen above the door and windows.

The pubs are suffering from rising rent costs and I suppose the smoking ban hasn't helped. The only pubs that seem to be thriving are those that make their money on serving food.

An article in 'The Independant' said

Pubs without the room to provide an attractive outside areas for smokers, and those that are not big on food have faced particular difficulties. The move towards spirits and wine has hit the beery pub. Research shows that there has been a marked trend in the rise of "pre-loading", where drinkers, young adults mostly, buy booze from a shop and down it at home before groggily wandering off to a pub or bar, thereby spending less money on binge drinking.

you arent going to mention the price of booze now?

the price of a pint has basically doubled in well under a decade. it is 3.50 now. i remember when it was 1.80 and i am only 24 years old lol

Has anyone else noticed how much we motorcyclists look the same no matter what part of the world we inhabit? Also have the same great tastes in good beers and hot women. We are truly some of the luckiest people on the planet.
