What is the actual weight of my bike?

Tanks half full. 270 kgs = 595 pounds... Does her ass look fat?





Not really over-packed by any means as you can see by the luggage arrangement

You can also use a regular bathroom scale to weigh a bike. Just do one wheel at a time then add them together. I think most scales top out at 300 lbs though. Some of you heavy hitters might exceed that.

Just be sure to put the non-weighing wheel on a block to raise it off the ground the same height as the wheel on the scale to avoid weight shift.

Those are both the same bikes, just different tanks. I sure like the Moab Pic.

Last time I put them on the scales, Trail trim - tank bags, spares, winch, AWD and about 4 gallons of fuel it was around 550. Not bad at all in my mind for what it can do.

The Alum tanks are lighter than the Aqualine tanks.

I'll pull the extras off later today when I'm in the shop and put it on the scales and try and get a "LESS GEAR" weight.

I have 2 of these and they have come in very handy over the years.

It's interesting to see how front and rear weight setup is from bike to bike when you can put the full bike on 2 scales.

Seeing this thread got me curious, mine weighed in at 504 lbs (228kg). That's with racks, crash bars, tire patch kit, pump, and tire irons. About 2 gallons of fuel in it I reckon.

I'm gonna be as scientific as the weather reporters and say it "feels like" 400lbs though...

Keep in mind too that the 990's with ABS have obviously added some weight to the equation. My stock 990 Dakar with about 3 gallons weighed in around 525 lbs. A 2-1 exhaust and a lighter battery should get me back close to 500. That's pretty darn close to what my old 950 weighed (without crash bars but with Gobi racks).

I've also got a Triumph Tiger 800XC loaner in my garage right (perk of my job), and it's supposedly 475-ish wet. But honestly, the KTM carries its weight so much lower and better, it's pretty noticeable. Not that the Tiger is a bad bike (I really, really like it), but just agreeing with others who have pointed out how well the big orange bike carries itself, when upright at least.

hmmmm....

990 ABS gained 20lbs++ over 950...

here's what i got folks....

950-S
Akra exhaust (less 10+lbs over stock!)
Smog removed.... (less 5lbs++)
No rack, no Guards (less 35lbs!) (ok, well, now its back on...)

Thats 50 lbs less ...bare foot mode!

Fully fueled = 480 lbs ...

My 1200GS was over 540 same configuration...
And the Ducati 999 460lbs fueled!
Most 1000cc++ bike is going to be a pig...no matter what.
Even the 800GS is 500 lbs...EASY!

690/640 is nice on dirt, but on a long haul a single thumper... kiss you asses good bye...

Bear in mind, KTM CG is pretty low also compared with most... its the fat HIGH mounted stock exhaust that kills it...
Get rid of it faaaaast..., you'll notice a huge difference.

Scale showed 280 kg but could fit 20 more liters of fuel in it so not far from 300kg (661 lbs) ...sounds high but can't really know how accurate the truck scale was.

Might have to try to weigh the bike with some more accurate scale at some point.



This was all loaded up heading south a while back to visit a friend in Linköping.

Impossible mate...!

Even the FATEST of the bunch EVER made is the mighty BMW R1150GS ADV. that wins the competition at a mere 600++ lbs....

Well its what the scale showed but it can easily be 100kg off and it would never be noticed and even if its off all loads are measured with both an in weight and an out weight so it would cancel out so the actual weight of the cargo is correct.

Dropped it the first day in front of the post office, tried to pick it up and soon realized, " this will cost me a few blown discs... L1-L100 and S1-S1000.. and the arms may be pulled right outta sockets. ....
It felt like a 10,000 lb bike!
This fat chick ran over and helped me pick it up... was pretty embarrassin .. since she did most of the work...

I don't think it is that impossible. It's about the same weight I got when I put my bike on the scale...
Two different scales, two different countries. Approximate same weight.
I might have not been carrying so much personal stuff, but my Pelican cases weigh a lot when compared to those soft bags.
I think the bike manufacturers lie their asses off when they quote the weight.

My bike has Akras, but it also has the OEM crashbars, a (very heavy) Touratech Skidplate, a TT rear rack, plus the Pelican Cases with Happy Trail Racks (which are lighter than the OEM ones).

State-certified DOT vehicle digital pod scales (customer owns truck-sales company was comparing the weight of his 2010 200XC with the 2012 model & I asked him to do a few bikes as long as he was there).

US-spec 2012 990 Dakar, new, on showroom floor. No battery or tool kit. KTM low crash bars I just put on. No luggage racks/luggage. Less than 1/2 gallon of fuel left in the tanks (2-strokes are shipped dry, 4-strokes have dark green fuel stabilizer with a splash of fuel from Austria production line testing)

499.7 pounds, no boards, tricks, or tare weight.

500 frickin' pounds before mods/additions, people. She hides her weight well...
