NYC Safety checks for Bikes: WARNING
OK, NYPD is at it full tilt. I have been pulled over 3 times in the last two weeks for bike "safety checks". This last time resulted in a ticket for, are you ready, non-DOT sunglasses( I was also wearing a full face helmet BTW with the visor but had put the visor up while I was stopped at the light). I tried to explain to the officer that my sunglasses are ANSI Z87.1, which is what the law requires. No dice. He said since they didn't have a DOT sticker on them they are no good
I am so tired of this ![]() I ride AGATT etc. yet in my neighborhood the dirt bikers ride right by the precinct pulling wheelies and the cops do nothing. |

It sucks that the only people that stop for those checkpoints are generally law abiding citizens.
If you don't want a ticket just take off like a bat out of hell like the wheeling dirtbikers do.

I am so sick and tired of cops pulling that eyeglass shit.
I'm ordering a bunch of these glasses http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/nuvograyaflens.html. I called this place and they said all glasses certified ANSI have a label on them. Has anybody ordered from this place and recommend a pair?

ordered clear and gray. i'll let you know. mostly i wanted a clear pair for riding in the woods - i constantly have my visor up and sometimes when its really shadowy sunglasses are too dark to make out the rocks that jump up and surprise you. they like to hide in the shadows.
i didn't realize you were at the berkshires. i would have said hello otherwise. i was the fool on the 950SE. had a blast on the DS course. Quote:

Impossable to comply with the law. If you have a high disposition on your presription eye glasses you can not get safty lenses that do not distort your vision so now you have to use real glass in your safty frames.

![]() I can't imagine what it was like on a 950. Good point on the clear glasses, I had my cheap sunglasses under my DS helmet on the trails and I ended up losing them (on purpose) 'cause I couldn't see squat. Had to go back to the field and pick up my goggles.

So what are the consequences if you refuse to comply?

I don't know but when I asked why I was being pulled over because I was a bike he immediately put his hand on his sidearm, WTF.

Well, if your glasses have the ANSI sticker on them then I guess you can go to court and fight the ticket. If the office wrote on the ticket that your glasses are not DOT approved then I don't know why they wouldn't dismiss it.

So when exactly was the American Constitution thrown out?
Fourth amendment; The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. Or was that all just a joke? |
