I have read that you can do it. I only use tracks as routes are unreliable when you have specific roads that you want to follow.

Too bad it's on Android. I'd buy a google map app if Apple lets them sell it. I imagine Apple has something similar in the works.
A cheap Android tablet could be the way to go.

Yep. That's pretty cool. I kinda figured Google would stick it to Apple in one way or another.

The new Apple maps are TomTom based. It would be really smart of them to do something with TomTom like they have with their "home" that is similar to mapsource/basecamp.

Accuterra allows you to do this. http://mobile.accuterra.com They even created their own maps and are much more detailed than other maps. The downside is there is an annual user fee but it is a reasonable price. They support importing tracks in KMZ format either by email or direct transfer from laptop to your iPhone.

It was Apples decision to dump Google maps (and Youtube). You can get everything the OP asked with Android and Google Maps. Maps will now sync between devices as of today's update. http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/0...pple-moves-on/

Of course, when Apple does catch up, we will be told about how advanced they are... did you hear how you can navigate by voice with your phone now? Apple just released it, isn't it *gasp* wonderful?!
Oh that's right....its been served on Android for years.
