Nice video, indypup. In addition to learning how to pop wheelies and cross logs, it looks like another basic skill I should learn is how to turn around when stopped on a hill.

I suggest 16 to US 60 in Gauley Bridge, then 60 east looping around and down on some back roads to NRG. I have taken 41 S off of 60 into Beckley a bunch of times and it's a fun ride. Make sure you ride down the gorge on the old road and cross the old bridge at Fayette(ville?) Station. Also a few good places to eat are at the Hawk's Nest State Park Lodge on 60 and this kickass little joint called Smokey's on the Gorge, which is on the northwest side of the bridge, off a backroad CR 60 / 5 Chestnutburg / Ames Heights Rd. I took Meredith on a birthday camping trip down there 3 years ago and we just happened to catch that Smokey's place at the right time and day, they had this awesome BBQ buffet.

250 is pretty congested around the Ohio River and the first little bit in Ohio and WV has a bunch of slower speed limits and smaller towns, too. Still a good ride.

You may want to PM herewego (Mike), he lives just off 16 in Pleasants Co and is very knowledgeable about the area.
Thanks for the info .I will probably just shoot down RT.7 to Fly then take the ferry across to RT.2. I will PM you the GPS coordinates to the cabin @ Tappan Lake so you can check it out sometime. Don't pay any attenion to the Private Property & No Tresspassing signs when you start back the lane.

what is it?

a paved road only tour of the Hocking Hills and Tar Hollow areas...175 miles of some of the best (but lesser known) roads in the Lancaster-Logan-Chillicothe corridor...

when is it?

Sunday, September 30, 2012 @ 11 am

where is it?

Starts at the Tarlton Market in Tarlton, OH
Ends at the Millstone BBQ restaurant in Logan, OH

featuring:

175 miles of scenic, twisty roads
gas stop at about the 90 mile mark

who's invited?

any and all with a two wheeled machine capable of sustained speeds of 50+

so, who's interested...?

looks like the weather is gonna be perfect (crosses fingers)

Depends where I go, if it's on the road orange, green if I'm 100% offroad.

I was fine until I fell over and slid down the hill and had to hike back up it and the muscle a 300# bike around. ;)

The first two shots were attempted in first gear which caused a bit too much wheel spin. The successful third attempt was made in second gear with more traction hook-up.

I may make another video of the rest of the carnage...lol I hung out there about 1/2 hour getting video of all the crashes. I was at bottom of the hill though and everyone looks like they are a mile away using the gopro. May try to zoom in a bit and see how that looks...

Speaking from experience (having taken multiple runs at many a hill), go faster before you get to the hill. If you had carried speed entering the woods and through the left hander before it got steep, you wouldn't have had as much trouble at the top. Accelerating up the hill is the hard way up.

After 3 years away from the dirt I'll get to see if I can still do what I'm talking about at the Baby Burr. I should get a motivational tape tp play while I'm riding, momentum momentum momentum stand up!

lol, sounds like something I should try too.

So swingset is playing in the dirt this weekend? I told sion I'd do the road ride though. :( May have to renege on him though. I'd like to learn a thing or two from swingset... ;)

You won't learn much from me, I'm not that good, and I'm still nursing a pretty sprained up right hand. I can ride ok, but I won't be doing anything daring or stupid.

Usually my lessons consist of "how to remove rear-fender without tools", and "land face down in the only puddle within 100 square yards". It's very instructive tho.

I'd like to do Sion's ride, but I don't have the bike for it anymore.
