This is a link to an article in Japanese where they interview one of the engineers.
They started off with a chopped in half Fit(or Jazz) engine and added a few modifications.

"A few" may be a bit of an understatement.

I really liked my 919 except for a couple of things. 1 it needed more poop and 2 while I liked having a lighter bike than my ST1100 it was physically too small. I recon the 1300 would be perfect. As far as being cheap, if they provide the product I want I'll pony up. There are 4 motorcyles and 2 quads in the garage right now. If they bring over the 1300 or build a modern CBX I'll put the Beemer on Ebay today.

I'm being serious--I love big standards. They just don't sell. Which creates a vicious circle of "not for the USA."

I have to belive that they would sell more standards than DN-01's, or DCT VFR's, or Fury's. I just wish Honda would listen to it's customer base. Take the VFR1200 for example, all Honda had to do was cruise the VFR forums to know that all the VFR guys wanted was their bike with a little more displacement and not the bike that Honda ultimately produced.

It looks to me like Honda is on the move. They are going back to their roots, which is a very good idea in my opinion. Over the last 2-3 years, they have come out with little 250 Ninja killer. Now they have a new CRF250, which should be a success. The NC700 is a runaway hit (Bike of the year?). Now they have the PC150X (?not sure what they called it) but it gets over 100 mpg and is hiway legal. I think all these bikes are very desirable and reasonably priced.

The Fit(Jazz) was a bit of a hit and I think the 2 wheel division was getting a bit of flack about lacking fuel efficiency.

I've a feeling the bore and stroke are the same, and... thats about it...

Actually, from what i read, that's spot on. They are blending a lot of the engine technology these days and supposedly literally all they did was hack off two cylinders.

agree and agree.

As far as their cars go, my family still has a 1990 Accord and we put nearly 300k on it since. It was wayyy ahead of it's time when it came out. Anyone from that era can remember what Ford and GM were making - the Honda's were just so much better.
Last year when my wife and I went to get a new car we checked out the Accord and it's just not what it used to be. Of course now the car market has totally changed but I know several people with modern Honda automobiles and most of them are having a surprising amount of problems considering Honda's exceptional reliability record.
We finally settled on the new VW Passat TDI and are very much enjoying the 46 mpg.

I actually go angry when I first saw a DN-01. They cant give us a simple standard, but they can bring a massive, stupid, automatic scooter/cruiser (?) here all while complaining that the US doesnt buy anything.

Then the guy tried to drag race me while I was on an SV1000....

I had a 919 and loved everything about it. I put many happy miles on it with no problems,and sold it to a guy who was replacing a 90k-mile 919. I loved the whine of the engine, the color, the fit, everything. Some people say they're underpowered, but mine was stock and would take off from a stop fast enough to blind me momentarily.

That's all I gots to say.
