So early,,,,Morris sits down with his breakfast and immediatly shares it with the rest of us.



We swing by and pick up Nick in Dadeville and reach Cheaha about 8'ish and offload to go on the route scouting trip.
Great weather up there saturday!



Ride a dim,dim trail that use to be a CCC road built to reach Mt. Cheaha back in the 1930's.
A beautifully crafted stone bridge is on this route:




Primarily this trip was to explore 4 possibilities of adding some new stuff.

Was successful in 2 areas.
Gates and dead ends (lying GPS topo software) put a end to the other 2 places.
Over all, we had a great day of riding with only one hickup. At one uphill, Bill got careened off the trail and smacked a tree. After picking the bike back up it, the starter wouldn't engage. Thinking it was possibly one of the safeties, they one by one were eliminated and still no crank.

While troubleshooting, Dreadman (owner of the Bamarides site) drove up on his KLR and talked with us a bit.


He has a fantastic motorcycle website, and he did a tiny interview/video of us while working on Bills wiring problem. Maybe we'll be infamous on the Bamarides website when he gets back from the Talladega Forrest weekend campout/ride.

He and his buds were camping out and he was on his way back to the campsite. We talked a bit and he invited us (YOU) to drop by and visit their booth at the Barber Vintage Days event. Look for their place in the flea market section.

Meanwhile,,,Nick noted the headlight looked a little crooked behind the shroud. After removing the numberplate/headlight shroud the problem was discovered:



A bit of fixing and we're off again.

Dinner time and we grab a really really really good burger at the Old Mill Restaurant




Many of you remember this place. Glad its reopened.




Just off the 600 road, we run into Dreadmans riding buddies.



Rider on the KLX is Mulley.

Mentioned to Mulley I enjoyed reading the report where he and Swamp rode the back country of Cambodia.

Got a late start due to weather concerns, turned out just about perfect for riding, we did get a little wet at the end. Did 65 miles today with Steve (thanks for helping me set the sag), loving the new bike.

ReidinItaly, Rotorhead and I had good session out at Mossy this morning. Very little rain fell on us, but we still had the benefit of some firm sand and really enjoyed the outing. Wet roots and downed trees were a little interesting for those of us with limited coordination skills but everybody survived intact.

I am definitely interested in the Cheaha Run...

That's an interesting issue. A good riding bud's turn came yesterday: he either bruised, cracked, or broke four, maybe five ribs in a tree-trunk-parallel-to-the-trail high speed getoff. According to the ER doc) He sustained the injury despite wearing armor. The armor, BTW, perhaps with the plaintiff's bar in mind, is almost universally called "Roost Protectors" by the maufacturers and vendors. They are not called "chest protectors" or anything else that would imply their usefulness for protecting the wearer from this sort of injury, so far as my very modest research yields.

Another friend found, after an extesive search, an ice hockey thingy that protected his ribs far better than any "roost protector" on the market, but it ain't all that convenient to riding a bike.

So the question is: anybody found one that protets ones ribs from hits from the side?

Yes, Morris is one of the nicest persons you'll ever meet. His son Nick is attending Auburn University and we picked him up just north of Montgomery to go with us.
It's always great to see a father and son having a good time together.

Morris and Doug K. invited me to their mountain cabin in north Georgia last October for a street ride in the mountains of 4 states.
Had a wonderful time in spite of being WAY out of my comfort zone going so fast for so long on those twisty mountain roads.
THEY were flyin.

"Go" = if we get some rain for the dust,,,,,,,,,,,and it ain't storming.
$$$$Cost too much to go up there if things we can't control aren't somewhat cooperating.$$$$$
Back-up plan is we put it off a week or even until late spring.
No biggie!


The annual Cheaha ride thats been going on for 10 years now thats ALWAYS been the last weekend in October.
Leaves are changing color then,,,,,,,,scheduled barely before the tourist clog up the campground and hotel rooms on top of the mountain.

I dont like to recomend things but Revzilla is a really good place to shop for accessories. No parts but for tires, gear, etc this is the place. Great videos on all products and they let you know before you order if it is in stock. Super fast shipping at no charge if over 39 bucks...

Tony, we try and go up to the cabin 5 or 6 times a year, it's a great "home base", we are going up Thanksgiving weekend if you would like to come.......alternate days between DS & street
