Europe and other countries have been using motorcycles as quick response/first responder vehicles for some time. It's nice to the see the U.S. playing catch up to the rest of the world as usual And no, using bikes solely for traffic or escort duty doesn't count.

I went through the EMT portion of our fire academy and brought this idea up. One of their firefighters had just submitted a proposal about. It did not go through. I was thinking less on the fire fighting front and more on the EMT front. Two guys on bikes can get through traffic and stabilize the patient until the ambulance gets there for transport. As congested as the DC area is, I thought it was a good idea.

I happen to think its a good idea, the problem is that a lot of people are stuck in their ways and can't fathom doing things differently.

Also, I can't tell you the number of medical "professionals" who think I'm a total idiot for riding. They also seem to feel the need to share every gruesome story they've ever seen or heard of involving a motorcycle. If this type of person OS in a "risk assessment" position, there's virtually no chance of a proposal going through.

Then you still need an ambulance, so the bike can't replace a unit, so there's add'l cost.

I do the 911 gig for a living. I have several coworkers who ride without protective gear. I've been on several bad outcome motorcycle accidents with many of them over the years and they are unchanged. Whatever floats the boat, sometimes we all learn the hard way I suppose.

I hear ya man...I have a few guys on my department who ride in T-shirts and jeans despite what we've all seen, but to each their own.
