"My participation in the DAKAR rally over the past few years has been an amazing experience. I have been working very hard to bring the enthusiasm and attention of the USA to this prestigious global event. I am excited to be part of Honda's official DAKAR race team and committed to it's success. My role will be to provide consultant, development, rider and mechanical services as needed to the project. Our first race will be a shakedown for the team and bike at the Morocco Rally, beginning in just a few short weeks." -- Johnny Campbell HRC racing.

More importantly for this rally though and from yesterday's press release -

Viladoms and Schlesser triumphant!
02/10/2012
The second stage of the Pharaons Rally didn’t see any significant changes in the motorcycle category. Even if the day’s special stage was increasingly difficult as it wore on, both in terms of terrain and navigation, the top riders all took it in stride. Amongst the cars, the gap between Khalifa Al-Mutawei and Jean-Louis Schlesser was reduced notably, thanks to a fairly dominant win by the Frenchman.

Jordi Viladoms (KTM - Bordone Ferrari) ran a nearly perfect stage today. We say nearly because the Catalan rider started very strong in the first part, before losing a little concentration later on. As he explained in his usual calm and direct way: “The second part of the stage was faster than the first. I left the refueling point with a thirty-second lead on the others, but Barreda and Goncalves were able to catch me. I was impressed by their speed, as their bikes were going at least 10 km/h faster than mine. That distracted me a little bit.” That said, Jordi still won the 307 km stage with an advantage of 1'12'' over Jakub Przygonsky (KTM – Orlen team), another rider who was fast in the first half of the stage, “but they lost me towards the end,” the Polish rider explained.

One reason why Joan Barreda finished fourth, behind Goncalves, is because they wandered off course toward the finish of the stage, where Viladoms was instead impeccable. Pal Anders Ullevalseter had a good day, finishing fifth, the same position he occupies in the overall standings, ahead of Bolivian rider.

The BMW's must be doing 175 kph

It seems unlikley as there is less than a week between the finish of Pharaons and scrutineering for Morocco and there is no safe way overland other than through Libiya and Algeria, plus the website advises that the bikes will only be available for collection from the port in Alexandria on the 12th

Unless they have 2nd Dakar prepared bikes

Now on Aug 1st the Moroccan site said:

"Officials teams have already confirmed their participation including the KTM official team complete with its two “bosses”: Marc Coma and Cyril Despres and HUSQVARNA RALLY TEAM BY SPEEDBRAIN and these rising stars BARREDA, GONCALVES, PELLICER !"

The rider list for Morocco should be out on the 8th, so we will know then

And he seemed to have a bit of a "wobble" towards the end, he was stopped on the track on the tacking, lost some time and missed a cp?

Maybe he will twitter why, but its mostly in Spanish - any info out there?
