TAG Moto BMW Dakar Rallye bike

[Airhead Wrangler]

Years ago I found a site with a bunch of photos of this (or a nearly identical) race bike built by TAG Moto in varying states of assembly. Anyone seen the photos I'm talking about and know where they went? Anyone know any other info about these bikes??



EDIT: Actually this might not be a TAG. Could be french?? Anybody know?

Yeah, I've seen all that, but the first bike pictured at the top actually isn't a TAG I don't think. I think it's actually french.

Rob Farmer nailed it over on UKGSer. This is actually the bike I've seen a bunch of photos of.





Unfortunately, nobody seems to know who made it except for the fact that they were probably french. Seems there was more than one of these.

He's restored one, as well as having other BMW G/S monsters (and sell spares)

His handle is "Desertpistons" strangely enough. I should change the title of this. I realized after posting that the bike pictured at the top is not actually a TAG, but some french bike from around '87 or '88. Too bad I haven't found any front shots yet as the fairing looks really cool. Dual round headlights

Yep. Not sure when exactly but they became a requirement for the Dakar rallye, Put a hole in one side and you wouldn't lose all your gas. If I remember right, that rear tank basically forms the rear subframe and fender. It's a structural part that the rider is actually sitting on.

Solo gets a cookie. I emailed desertpistons since he takes quite an interest in airhead (and other) 80s rallye bikes. It turns out he considered buying the bike in question when it was up for sale in France several years ago. He said that these bikes were prepared by a BMW dealership in Paris, Arcueil Motor. They still appear to be in business as they have a website which is under construction: http://arcueilmotor.com/
