I'm glad the ADV version is not out yet because if it was I definately would be a beta-tester...

I'm in, wet clutch pushed me over the fence. I'm supposed to get the first one at my favorite Houston dealer. Can't wait until the order forms are ready to be filled in and sent off to Munich.

How the hell are you guys preordering?! My dealers at Blue Moon in Atlanta and Touring Sport in Greenville, SC haven't even mentioned pricing or preorders. I've been burning up their phone lines trying to get in line!

I don't think anyone can order yet, it's just getting on your dealer's wait list.

1. Call Dealer/make deposit/find out youre #2 ><
2.???????
3. Profit

Technically I guess as above, this is more a waitlist than pre-order.

Also no alternator belt is definately another big plus !
Like I said all I can see for improvement to make it a "no maintenance engine" like in the cars of today where you only have to replace fluids, filters, sparkplug sans the belt are hydraulic lifters or direct injection for even better mpg.
But if you eber tried the new Scion GT-86 or Subaru BRZ and how slow that thing revs even blipping the throttle I don't know if DI is a good idea...
Looks like changing the alternator is gonna be a pretty big job... but it seems like clutches fail more often...

Spline lube?

Will the 2013 R1200GS need the tedious/ridiculous spline lube operation like the oilheads do?

I agree, except for the instrument cluster. A work of art, it seems to blend german engineering, swiss watch crisp dials and italian style. Sweet.
