Does it not bounce or vibrate out front like that?

No. I have a more recent AR, a Rock River Armory A2 in CAR configuration much like that. It has the integral sight/carry-handle setup, so I did a Trijicon Reflex sight set up on that exact same kind of base, in a scout position. It works fine and is rock solid. Of course, those sights aren't really high precision like a big power scope, but they are light and the mount is more than sufficiently rigid.

Always a vicious cycle

Pay it forward
I have two 30 rd mags for an AK if anyone wants them. I sold my AK (Romanian) a long time ago and they are just sitting collecting dust.
One of them is metal and the other is plastic.. if you want them let me know, just cover shipping and their yours (or pick them up if your local to DFW).

That's a really nice old A1. Or is it a Nodak? No Colt/Hako?

Its been on there for 2.5 years now, no flaking. It all depends on how you apply it I think, and the surface material.

Where does one find an A-1 or earlier style upper these days? I understand that they are not as versatile but I'd really like to put together something like the original CAR. Bruce

Bout a year ago I was in a shop that had a current production CAR style Colt AR in 9mm. It had the old A1 upper and when I visited with the shop proprietor he told me that's how Colt still makes them. I really wanted the gun, thought a 9mm AR carbine would be a hoot, but the $1100 price tag put me off. I haven't seen one since. But they were still being made as of not all that long ago.
