Non key locking gas cap for a 990
I'm looking for replacement gas caps for my 990. I will be racing in dust and sand and I want to mitigate the risk of breaking a key or not being able to open a gas cap during a long race. I have had an experience before where after a crash, sand made it's way into the key holes making it impossible to insert a key.
Ideally this would be simple plastic caps and not fancy metal on metal billet screw type. Any suggestions?

If you check ebay, there are several screw on type replacement gas caps for the KTM 950/990.

Do these seal well agains dust? What is the action like on the cap? Is it simply metal on metal screw contact? Will it vibrate off? http://www.ebay.com/itm/KTM-QUICK-RE...60489332753%26 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Gas-Fu...d41eaf&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-Quick-Re...2e1724&vxp=mtr

I'm not in a racing situation, but I did remove the one allen screw that is under the cap so if the locks become un workable I can remove the 5 or 6 allen screws, lid and add fuel as needed to get me home.
Man, that was a long sentence. Hope it makes sense. ![]() . |
