new to me 640

Hey, I just wanted to sign with my "new" '02 640 Adventure. I bought if a few weeks ago and plan to do a refresh on it over the winter. I'll take pictures as I go, and post them in some sort of a build thread.

Hey, I think you were ask me that question, I live in Ontario. But I bought the bike out of Quebec. I actually took all of the stickers off the bike about an hour after that pic, since I haven't done any of those rides myself... they were all done by the previous owner.

gotcha, I figured as much. Check your mileage and find out if the cam rollers have been changed if it's over 30K. Fun bikes.

Have been running the 660 Rallye cam for about 5 000kms now. Std internals, fcr 39, staintune muffler and std airbox opened.

There is a big increase in top end which kicks in hard at 5000rpm. Low to mid is much of a muchness with stock cam but feels weak compared to the hit. (All comparisons are seat of the pants)

I have been playing around with tuning as the big hit at 5000rpm doesnt feel right, during my playing I have noticed that my 2004 cdi in the low octane position will actually start to miss high in the 4000rpm range before hitting 5000rpm and then pulling hard and clean. To me its feeling like its mainly timing.

I have read somewhere that early in the duke cdis there was a problem with pistons cracking and they superseded the cdis with less advance. People were getting hold of these early cdis as they performed better in the mid range, I wonder if Gunnerbucks 03 is the same?

Low594 is this what you were running? http://www.ignitech.cz/english/aindex.htm I hope not as I was considering one of these and losing the ability to kick start without battery would be a dealbreaker for me.

Yep, that's what I've got. Its not in right now, went back to the stock cdi. It worked well when I had it in, just lacked the funds to properly dyno the new carb and ignition module. I'm on the fence about putting it in again, not sure I am ok with loosing the the kick without batt. But I've only needed it 2x in the last 2+ yrs! Its an easy decision right now, as funds have been very low. Bigger issues to deal, like the crappy Touratech IMO and the failing tach!

Thanks Low, save me researching them any further.

I hear what you say about not often needing the kick. However only time I've ever really needed it was a good days walk from the road, after that I probably appreciate it much more than I should.

So anyone know the difference in 03 cdi's apart from the lack of octane switch, if any?

Alternatively anyone in my neck of the woods interested enough to see if it makes a difference to the seat of the pants experience?

Thanks! I like the Leo Vince and the kickstand you've got... I live in Whitby (30 min east of Toronto), but I've been riding dirt with my brother in law in Trenton for the last 3 years or so... Looking to get more involved with some rally's and meets next season.

The Leo Vince has a nice sound, and is lighter than the stock Supertrap. And the Motech side stand is very handy to have.

And if you're looking for a rally next year: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=829554
