CSM 'Outback' sidecar

Some pics here of our new 'outback' sidecar bioy design. The idea was to bridge the gap between the ural clone type bodies such as our CSM 1 and the open air enduro type sidecar designs. Tons of storage with many options to add or delete. Your own ideas are always welcome as usual.

The yellow one with red racks etc, below belongs to Harold Zeller Originally from Germany. He picked up the outfit left his truck at my place and headed west to California and points west right away.In the fall th eplan is to build a leading link for it with a 165r15 car tire and do some other modifications.

Here are some pics of Kalaua Surfer's outfit. It has an integral rear storage box . It also has a 3" lower cowling than Harold's outfit. This one is based on an 1150GS whereas Harold's shown above is based on a 1200GS. Kalaua flew in and drove the outfit back to Georgia.

Hey Claude, nice car!

Chuck actually spotted Harold's rig at the SLC airport recently and we talked about it on wheelnerds. It's a big, badass looking car. Nice work!

Episode 53 - Socialist Bears - Chuck actually spotted it and posted about it before the episode (pics are in the June 22 post.) We weren't sure but it had a "Claude's work" kind of vibe about it.

Hello Eric. Amazingly enough the body design does better than expected at speed. We tried to keep the flagrant flat vertical area up front on the body to a minimum. It is no larger than our typical flat windscreen. The top of the nose is rounded from side to side to allow air to spill offf prior to getting the to the windscreen.. The under nose section is shaped to potentially create some lift at speed. All this sounds good in writing and may seem like total BS to some...Frankly I was included...lol.
However in practice up to over 8o mph on our own (1150 GS based) outfit I was pleasanly surprized. And heck that was with all the flat faced panniers and battery box stuff going on. Nope we ain't taking one to Bonneville or anything but again, it did surprize me more than I thought it would.

Weather protection is decent for the passenger. Wind wings could be a plus I think. I do plan to modify the tonneau cover on our Red Baron Outback 'house car' to hopefully make this even better at some point. We shall see how that goes.

The idea of this body design is to bridge the gap between the ural clones and the 'sit on the box while holding a grab rail' enduro type bodies that are both popular in the adventure sidecar world.
