You won't find any forum posts about riders having chronic problems with high mileage DRs. Nobody seems to be able to wear one out as long as the bike gets reasonable care.

Just rode 90 miles on the dr 650 for the first time. So different than my sv650. Feels light. Have to get used to bike. The way it handles.
Quick feedback. The seat is torturing device. I've read about how bad it is. Oh my, it was bad. I had to stand up for a few times because I couldn't feel my butt. Need to do something about it soon. It was still fun |

So my bike decided to take a nap last night and won't start this morning. It was laying on its left side and could obviously smell fuel. What should I be looking to fix?

In a perfect world that would be true but the fact is that the DR650s that people on this forum ride every day do not have "all circuits tuned properly". The original poster commented that he had a rich bog after installing the DynoJet kit. DynoJet's instructions tell you to adjust the mixture screw to a position that is too rich. In almost all cases the off idle rich bog can be cured by setting the idle mixture at the lean edge of the 'smooth idle range'. This is a practical solution that anyone can use.

You will need better tires than stock. I'd go with TKC's or D606 or what ever you can find, especially up front. November can be changeable weather. Be prepared for Cold and Rain. But mostly ... November is ideal for the area. Have fun. There are two decent bike shops in Ridgecrest. Hope you get a chance to explore the area ... it's great riding. Husky Monument, Cuddyback lake, Charlie Manson's house ... and lots lots more. ![]() "The Fun House", two miles out of Ridgecrest. ![]() The Pinnacles, near Trona, CA. ![]() Heading into Death Valley and over to Goler Wash. |

Was there any fuel visible on the ground? You might have just dumped some from the breather hose. If you're not using the stock tank with the vacuum operated petcock and you left the manual petcock in the ON position, it's conceivable that the carb got flooded when it was on it's side like that. You might be able to just let it sit for a while and try it again. Alternatively, you could turn the petcock to OFF (if it's manual), then use the drain screw at the bottom of the carb to drain the fuel out. Use some tupperware for this as there is a good bit of fuel saved up in there. Once that's done, tighten the screw back up, turn the petcock to ON, and try again.
