SkyTrek @ Flinders

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone has ridden Skytrek (Willow Springs Station) at all, and if it's worth doing. I've done it in a 4WD, but not for 10 years, and can't remember much detail of it.

I realise back in April they had to re-route part of the trek (bypassing Mt Carnarvon) due to issues with the access to the Rock Wallaby reserve, but nonetheless, anyone got any thoughts?

Flinders Ranges, Nov 14-18

Just seeing if there's any others planning to come up (to the Flinders) on these dates(Wed Nov 14, to 18). There's about 4-6 so far, and we're looking at putting the bikes on trailers for the trip up.

If you're thinking of coming and might need a spot on a trailer, let me know when you can (PM me).

Rough plan so far includes staying at Angorichina, and doing the nearby PAR's, and then a couple of other options also, depending on what anyone else wants to throw into the hat.

Any Croweaters going to the MotoGP next week. I am riding over on Wednesday with some local buddies but will be camping on the high side alone. If anyone wants to catch up for a brewski let me know via PM

Thanks again Emu, Ozz and Kev

been thinking about the whole Erzberg suspension thing and what it would take for me to comfortably run with the pack.....
Watching the vid has confirmed how the bike felt, the front springs are too heavy (and I hate to admit it but I weigh 100kg dry) the front simply would not dive enough under brakes for the geometry to take over and put extra weight on the front wheel.........there was a whole lot of skills I couldn't use as I couldn't weigh the front wheel and also put the bike into a tighter steering geometry.............after having two TM's which have the best suspension/geomerty of any dirtbike on the market bar none...........its a bit of a shock.

and the rear spring which I assume is standard is too soft and felt as such over the limestone geeups (I just made that word up)..it was good to get some air on the big girl and landing was generally fine, but it became apparent that once the spring tension was overcome the valving on full compression was lacking, (front suspension) after talking with Kev and Con later I realize KTM have just taken the suspension from the "smaller/lighter" bikes and just put in heavier front springs and left it at that.

the smooth linear power with is the saving grace, wind the throttle on and all is forgiven.

rear spring is WP 140-215
I had the front preload wound right off and comp on 2 clicks

anyway Iam just putting my thoughts out there to help current and future Erzberg owners.

cheers
A.

I have done it several times by bike over previous years, was always great fun, however with the removal of the Mt. Carnarvon section they have taken out the best & more techinical section, with some great hill climbs & scenic views.
I'm sure it would still be fun by bike but not as good as it used to be..

Thanks Sol. Yeah, I don't know anyone who's ridden/driven the new route yet. I do believe the newly graded tracks do make for some interesting going.

I heard today that Arkapeena has some good tracks worth doing, including some great runs along the ridges with views to match. My cousin manages Rawnsley Park, who I believe now owns Arkapena Stn, and my have some more info on the tracks there.

It is nice to have options!

I did Arkapeena over Easter last year and it was a great track in the Hilux, I reckon it would be a heap of fun on the bike.

I would probably stick to the AWD track as the 4WD track has some serious hill climbs with big rocks. The view at the top however is awsome

The red section is the 4WD track...

p.s. have the Kangaroo at the woolshed restaurant, big time yum

Did the Arkapena track on my XR 600, piece of piss.
When I finished I went back to the start & did it again, after all I had the key
A good fun track.

I might think twice about putting a GS12 thru it though.

Thanks for the map link OzJuJu - it's hard to see a track marked in red and not at least have a crack at it!
