![]() My first V-twin. 1975 Ducati 860 GT. I bought it for $900 in the winter of 1979. I bought it from a guy who I met at the Suzuki/ Kawasaki dealer in Lexington sometime in 1976 or 7.When I met him he was turning wrenchs at the dealership and after a couple of years he had opened a BMW dealership in Lexington. I think he got the 860 in as trade while he had the dealership. When I found there was a Ducati for sale at price I could meet , I had to change my mindset. I dug the Ducati twin but hated the square styling cues dumped on the 860 by an Italinan car designer. I got over it. When I first went to see the Duc the clutch lever perch was broken. I stated I had the money and was ready to buy pending a test ride. Just wanted to hear it, run it threw the gears and turn around a couple of times. He got the perch goobered back together and even though I had walking pneumonia in December I took it up the street and pretty much jerked the 900 in cash out to hand to him. 23,000 miles and 33 years later I still feel I got my moneys worth, and I still have the bike.

they were selling those 2 cyl 750's at fire sale prices back in 1975, and i always wondered what if. i ended up with a new 76 550 honda instead, adequate but alittle dull.

Agreed on the love of the twin... I find it the power delivery, sound, personality and aesthetics of a twin much more compelling than a thumper or multi-cylinder bike. I recently picked up a Moto Morini Scrambler 1200 and would be hard pressed to think of a better all around bike than the scrambler. It just delivers, handles great, looks great, sounds great, couldn't be happier with it. (I'd post a pic but I recently posted them on another thread and I don't want to punish people with oversharing). My cruiser is a twin (parallel), my sport...er, standard ... uh, adventure ....... my scrambler is a twin, and my next bike will be a twin (Guzzi is the current front runner for number 3 but it's not decided yet).

vt 1100 was a great bike
I moved to Hawaii in may and bought a 1992 vt1100 which I loved. It had the nice low v twin rumble but wasn't to loud but with tons of power to pull me and my bags. Unfortunately I had only completed about 75% of my tour of the island before a car didn't see me and hit me in a intersection destroying my bike and putting me in the hospital and still healing up... they just pulled the pins out yesterday, not a good experience... I was awake and no local. but back to the bike, I loved my v twin but im thinking Ill get a straight 4 kz1000p for my next bike for touring when I get back to the mainland.
