I am beyond ignorant of these bikes but wanted to ask you smartguys: was there a Police version of the Dakar and if so, what years? I thought I saw one a few days ago but, since I'm ignorant, how would I know?

There was a police version of the GS but I dont know about a Dakar version, the spares system shows many of the parts. The single seat is from the Police GS and you see them on the news from time to time in motorcades

I've only seen the regular GS.
Far as I know they were used in Holland and Italy at least.
I've often wanted to try to order the pieces just to see if the dealer would be able to sell them without any restrictions

I have often wondered if they had a larger capacity charging system that could be retrofitted to a Dakar.

Don't think so (think they already have the same ones)

It's not part of the "flash signalling light (authoritites)"

Two is definitely easier because you just have to make the connection and the signals will work at twice the speed of normal. I've had the back done since last year, just getting around to the LEDs up front. I guess i'll try just adding the diodes by the dash indicator, then get the new relay if needed...

I wasn't thinking about the installation, but rather the that it'd be easier since you'd have them all flash at the same speed, no issues from the start :)

They were sold into the US for police and National Parks use, dont know what states some were purchased by chain gang members, see the web site below

Denmark had a version of the F650GS for the Military police

I finally put it on the scale today and I have to say I am suprised.

169 kg / 372 pounds

This is the Oryx with steel rear frame (as opposed to the ~2-3kg lighter aluminium rear frame) and everything in it but gas.

I would have seriously thought it'd be closer to 180 kg.
