Just spoke to the GG importer here, it comes out to roughly 21000 euros (with 23% VAT inclusive)

Interesting that there is no extra oil cooler on it, he said that total oil capacity is at 1650ml, GG tweak the WR motor and add a bit of extra oil capacity down near the cases. Unfortunately they don't have a showroom model for me to drool over... all bikes are built to order and ship form Spain

Some technical details of the GG dakar replica / package, as translated from here (it's in Greek)

The KTM 450rr is a 5 speed too, I had wondered why they didn't put the 6 speed in it.

I'm sure they have there reasons, I know Gas Gas has a very good reason.

you can make 1st gear really tall on these kinda bikes, no need for 6 gears.

And ultimately, the space inside the cases is the same, so five speeds rather than six is (crudely) an extra 20% on the face width of each gear. As noted, if there's no need for a short 1st, I'd take stronger gears rather than more gears.


And of course in this case, it's because it's not their engine.

Some observations from my end...

The dry weight looks impressively (and exceptionally!) low - JVO list their similar kit fitted to a WR at 135Kg. I don't imagine that posted weight can include any navigation equipment?

Interesting why they would retrofit a hydraulic clutch when I would have thought the stock cable clutch on the Yamaha would be less susceptible to potential problems (fluid boiling/leaking) - while a cable clutch you can adjust and bodge/repair with a spare cable to get you home?

Also I noticed with my pedantic hat on - I imagine they are Marzocchi Shiver forks, not Magura...

However, none of these are criticisms - all in all, that is a pretty good deal for someone wanting a complete 'turn up and ride' package for Dakar?

This bike is good value at that price.

i really hope they start to sell these bike, and there is more compition. I really like the look of the Husky aswell.


The KTM 450 RR is great but to import it to South Africa it is 34 000 Euros

Not wanting to dig up that old paper vs. digital debate, but...

As a thought, since the iPad mini was launched this week (not two miles from where I am currently residing!), perhaps now is the time for someone to develop a digital road-book app a la Tripy? - Just imagine that cutie little iPad (which is about the screen size of a paper road-book roller) with a Tripy style road-book, and of course the facility to use it as a turn by turn GPS too, and Google maps... oh, hang on...

But seriously, I reckon the new iPad mini is the perfect size for a digital map / roadbook device - for recreational use if nothing else?

Actually, it would be (technologically) impossible to keep that size and performance in a real world conditions.
I dream about such device as a motorcycle dashboard for years.

Many have discovered that more challenging the task is, more low-tech you need to go.
Russians didn't put hydraulic controls anywhere in their planes because 'it can fail'.

Nah, all things considered I am a total luddite when it comes to the great digital roadbook debate...
(As well as the great digital roadbook creation debate)

Saying that, I did once have to tape my iphone to my roadbook screen to head back to the bivouac for repairs in the middle of a stage, this damn iPad mini would have been perfect

I had a mate here from Sweden like that... before the Tuareg Rallye 2011 he had NEVER used a GPS (had ridden plenty of roadbook rally's etc. and was at home with the "paper" side of things).

I said; "No worries..." (I was managing the team of two riders) "... I have a solution to simplify everything for you..."

Anyway, a few days later... when we unload everything out of the team bus for inscription/ technical inspection,
there on the screen of the Garmin 60 GPS is a yellow sticky "post it" note (like everyone has on the monitor of their computer at work to remind them of things).
On the "post it" note I had hand drawn a big arrow pointing upwards... and "THIS WAY" written below it...
