That was meant for Kav. The APP is the Aux Power Plant. Some folks call it the APU but this one does not have the hydraulics attached to it directly.

Stirling example of a great chin bubble. Those accessory rubber seals are so much better than the factory chin bubble riveted kind. Easier for the mechanics to take off and put on too!

Same thing here. I was a crew chief on these as well. Started out flying A's and D's, but the E was my favorite. Yep! It was fun laughing at the guys who blew an APP start, until it happened to yourself.....start pumping. That and when you had to pump the tail around. Good times indeed!

The C-5 (not a chopper, but I have carried many in the cargo bay, so I claim exception!) has two APU's, both started by hydraulic accumulators.
Forget to start the hydraulics after starting the APU's and you would find yourself pumping...for a very long time, as you had to bring them up to about 2800 psi...

I only made that mistake once.

Same here, I can't help but laugh when I hear a APP start to fire up and then just quit. I haven't had that happen to me on a '53 yet. I did, however have the APP on a Harrier explode on me one time. That will catch your attention. And the attention of pretty much everyone on the area. We spent the next hour picking tiny turbine blades off the flightline. Luckily there we no fire.

Whoa! I can only imagine the bill for the taxpayer to fix that, or does that result in the rego being transferred to another plane?

.....And as to the gentleman that 'rescued' a $200 remote controlled toy airplane........... if he had been working for me he would be unemployed. What a stupid stunt. I'm sure that must have impressed the sh!t out of that student pilot sitting next to him. With quality instruction like that, its no wonder so many R22s crash.

My thoughts on the R-22 stunt were about the same. I was thinking that professional pilots don't do that kind of crap, lucky for the airplane owner an amateur was there to save the day.
