I can't say that I've ever seen a FS 29er below 20lbs. I think the Cannondale Scalpel 29er Carbon Ultimate is probably about the lightest out there. It's only $11K.

They probably built the 'lightest evar!' bike up with some uber fancy carbon wheels. The bike you rode probably had more pedestrian stuff on it. ![]() M

First MTB Race Preps
Got an email 2 days ago about an MTB race, promptly registered for it. Now I have to work to avoid being a passenger in the sweep vehicle!
Race is on 17/18 November. I do about 2-3 days on the road bike every week, total of 450km last month. Plan to increase endurance for race is; Mon 2 hours of easy spin Tue 1 hour of intervals Wed Rest Thurs 2 hours, mix riding - intervals if I can, tempo otherwise Fri Rest Sat 3-4hrs of riding, endurance Sun Rest I took one week of riding from last week and will resume this Saturday AM I have an MTB but never went proper riding with it, no riding places close by. Course for race is muddy, with roots and a 150m/1km climb thrown in. Day 1 is 34km Day 2 is 50km Chance of rain Temps 30-35 deg C Any suggestions (for world domination or just finishing the race)?

So do I, but I might hold out for ski resorts renting them out.

Just go out and get a feel for it. That'll give you a better idea of how to prep for the next one.

Buddy of mine came over yesterday to finish up building his new Gin and Trombones. Got it mostly done and we went for a ride. Took him down the 4 stretches of dirt roads round the house.
Basically, dirt roads = interval session for me. Hammerzeit! HIS bike ran like a top. MY bike had issues the whole time. Threw the chain a few times. Flatted. Noisy. Oh well. At least one of us had a quiet, nice-shifting bike! What felt best was I was dropping him like a bad habit when I opened up. He's usually the one leaving me in the dust on our rides. I'm hoping he finally realizes that when I'm out with him, I've usually done something hard the day before and the sprints up the hills kill me. I'll start holding my breath now. M

Well, my light came in, and holy COW that thing is bright! I knew what all the reviews I found said, but actually turning it on the first time I laughed like a little kid. I was amazed! Now to attache the base to my helmet, and next week I'll get to try it out on the trails.
MagicShine MJ-808E if anyone is interested. I'll give an initial impression from a MTB noob once I get a ride or two in. |
