Just a little scooter trip ...........

Have to start off with an admission that I usually hide out over in Orange Crush as most of my time is spent playing on a big 990 KTM Adventure.

But I think I have just gone mad and signed up to do this

This looks like fun but I must warn you. Scooters are addictive. When you come back from your trip you may have an uncontrollable urge to buy a scooter. Soon you will be riding that scooter more and more as your KTM starts to gather dust. I've got two Dual Sport bikes and two scooters. I ride the scooters much more.

BTW, what scooter will you be riding?

Not sure - last year the used a Sym (not sure what size/model but it looks like a Vespa copy !)

I actually run a Piaggio/Vesp dealership in the UK so get to ride scoots a fair bit at work.

I know the scooters are easier to ride, cost less, burn less fuel, wear tyres less etc etc but the KTM makes me smile more !

Well we made it ! 2,400 km across Egypt including a section of road that the locals reckoned could only be done by 4x4 !

It's a dealership in the UK so maybe not quite the same as the US - business is not good, but then again it's not too bad. Bottom line is that we need to work hard to gently remove ££££ from customers wallets ! We need to persuade them to spend and then we need to persuade them to spend with us. And the bottom line seems to be to offer good old fashioned customer service

Scooters are addicting for sure. I had only ridden motorcycles up until a few years ago. Now I own 3 scooters, and my motorcycles collect dust. I mainly ride the motorcycles when I need to go on the freeway, or my XT225 for off road. I even have to take them out and ride them sometimes just to exercise them, when I don't even feel like riding, to keep them from deteriorating. May eventually sell all of them but the XT. I still love trail riding. I have spent the last 35 years riding all over the country, and it has lost a lot of it's appeal. And I am too old and my health is not good enough to do around the world type riding. Now I'm finding all the backroads I missed while riding on the freeways.

Not sure you are riding them correctly then ;) Anything with two wheels should leave you grinning your head off or you simply aren't trying hard enough lol.

Fair comment ! I did write the original post before I left on the trip !

I can now confirm that you can have great fun on a scooter - particularly off road in sand .............
