Update 3 Sept 2012
UPDATED
Added a nice ride report with photos of Smoke Hole and Dolly Sods submitted by Todd Brunermer of State College, PA. To view it: http://www.ridingwv.com/RidingWVBackroadsReports.htm and scroll down to either the Allegheny Mts or Eastern Panhandle sections. (I posted it in both since it overlapped 2 regions) ALSO: Events Page is updated with upcoming events thru mid-September. Ride Safe!

Diner Updates
Added 2 nice diners I discovered in the past month to the Diners Page:
Family Traditions - Petersburg WV - http://www.ridingwv.com/FolderDinerReports/FAMILYTRADITIONSRESTAURANT.htm and Hillbilly's Kountry Kitchun - downtown Mullens (20 miles SW of Beckley on Rt 16) - http://www.ridingwv.com/FolderDinerR...illbillyKK.htm Stop by either place for a great meal next time you are through either area. Take a break from fast food! .

I like the site. My family, (riders from all over the eastern U.S.) are considering a family get together ride in Beckley, WV. Some are dualsporters and some are Harley riders and one guy, my uncle, is on a Kawasaki Versys, doesn't squarely fit in either group. We would like to use Beckley as a hub and do rides each day in different directions. Any further guidance you could provide would be helpful.

Anyone else with suggestions, please chime in. I'm not as familiar with the SE corner of WV as I should be. Diners? Interesting destinations? Good Dual-sport rides? When are you planning to visit?

Attempting to link to GMAPS Pedometer route map:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5730269 This is a 177-mile loop south and west of Beckley. If this link works, I'll post a few more. EDIT: It works, but it takes a minute or two to load - please be patient. .

This is a nice loop.
Leave Beckley south on rte. 19 to Shady Spring and turn left toward Hinton on rte.3. Follow 3 through Hinton, and continue on 3 to Gap Mills. You have to stop there and visit the Cheese and More Store and their bakery across the road. Grab some of their excellent cheese along with a bag of pepperoni rolls, but stash them for later because a good lunch is just over the mountain at the Swinging Bridge. http://www.theswingingbridge.com/ To get to Paint Bank from Gap Mills you'll need to turn right heading south on rte.311 and go across Peters Mountain. Leaving Paint Bank pick up state rte. 600 west which is next door to the Swinging Bridge. This is a nice ride up Stony Creek, and you may see some buffalo grazing in the fields along the roadside. This will bring you rte. 460 where you'll head west to Princeton. At Princeton you can either head up I-77 to Beckley or jump off at the Camp Creek exit and follow 19 back to Beckley. This is an approximate 175 mile loop.

Thanks everybody. It's in the planning stages now, and I'm going to link this thread in an email to my uncle, the driving force in planning this trip.

NEW PAGE - RIDING ROUTES
I'm trying something new - Favorite Riding Loops and Favorite Roads. I started with a loop down by Beckley for Rusty Rocket. There is a map created on GMaps-Pedometer with mile markers, and a printable guide to take along with you. Please let me know what you think - is this useful? If so, I have several more ready to go. Thanks! http://www.ridingwv.com/RidingRoutes.htm

That was nice. Thanks for putting it all together. Anyone planning a WV trip would be crazy not to use your site as a resource.
