When you sell this to buy a 4wd model I call dibs...

I've been looking all over Outside Van and I still haven't found one I like better. After I graduate/build a house this is the next thing on my list. Is it sad I'd rather have one of these than a car?

Inside the van, you don't hear it at all.. I will sleep like a baby .. but when the thing fires up there is a "burbling furnace sound" that comes out of the exhaust pipe. Just loud enough that any tent nearby is going to curse me when my furnace warms me up at 2 am and wakes them in the process.

I wonder how well the muffler works?

The muffler sounds like a good idea...the quieter our gen sets, furnace blowers, motor vehicles, etc are the more enjoyable the camping experience for all, thanks for asking

It is up on the backside of a cross spar - I don't know whether it is going to be impacted or not (it is out of tire-spray line).

I'm going to keep an eye on it.. as soon as we have some weather I'll drive a bit and take a look.

An inner tube is a great idea - I wonder if it would cause heat issues? Considering the giant rubber holder it is in now.. probably not.
I might build a stainless shield /deflector for it as an alternative.

You may want to rethink that one...I'd just load up on warm blankets and offer to warm my missus up with body heat...

My sweetie has a -5 million degree mummy sleeping bag.
If the van's not warm she's buried in that thing and I'm not getting closer than 3 inches of 900 fill down from her (and she'd kill me if I poked a hole in it ).

If you are going to use that tactic, keep your girl out of REI; chances are an expensive warm cozy sleeping bag is more appealing to her that your stinky arse

Diesel engines are not big Carbon Monoxide producers. However Carbon Dioxide is another story. It will displace the Oxygen. Get a detector for CO2 or leave a window cracked.

You do know that there is a major winter storm rollin' our way set to arrive Friday night, right? Temps are going to change drastically, and wind, and snow, and...........it will be good exercise for the new heater!

Oh, and you still suck.
