Lowered Suspension
Well after lowering the bike (SPS did the work) last winter and riding it all year i have to say i enjoy the 950SM much better now. The bike just handles better with correct springs and valving for sport riding and the lowering just adds to it. I grunted after spending so much $$$$ on the suspension re-work, but it was worth every $.
Bike just leans and turns so much better and i find i am dragging knee all over the place that i didn't before. If you are thinking about a winter project and you haven't put any $$ into suspension i would recommend it. |

How much did you have it lowered?
How much shorter is the shock now? Did the shock and the forks get lowered internally, or did you just slide the forks thru the triples to match the new rear ride height? SPS ( is Superlush?) Is it neccessary to do valving etc? Or will they simply do the lowering and leave valving alone. I find that all out suspension performance is rally wasted on my street bikes. Even at stock height, riding like a maniac on Bridgestone 023's, dragging knee from VA to TN, I can't outride the stock suspension. I think the valving is good enough for what I do with it.....and I don't plan to race or trackday the KTM so all out performance isn't that important to me....for that I have racebikes. I would rather just have it lowered and ride it. What was the damage if you don't mind me asking?

I don't have my notes with me at this moment, but i seem to recall i lowered the forks and shock about 3/4 to 1". Rear spring was fine and re-useable, but forks required custom cut shorted spring for my weight (200 lbs) and both ends were re-valved. It's not cheap, but i was close to selling the bike due to the suspension. It's now closer to a SuperDuke than and SM. I raised the pegs as well. |

Lowering
I shortened the shock to yield 1 1/2" lowering. Used stock spring no revalving. Just slid forks up in clamps about 1/2" to balance out the front. I went a little stiffer on the front springs for my weight and to reduce dive when breaking--not due to the lowering. I also removed a shim from the from the valve stack to lighten the dampening up a little. I am about 190#. I have been very happy with this set up

I wonder if those forks will make it onto a production SD1290 here in the US... Looks very sweet to my eye.
