Great ride today

Thanks guys....Dan, Chuck, Todd & I headed West today....early start for me but 'lectrics kept me toasty to the meet up spot, Sheetz Powhatan on 60...we did 56 to Montebello, BRP south to 60...snow in the shadows but no traffic and warm temps, very nice little cruise...then we peeled off 60 into the GWNF enroute to tower road etc etc...then we hit Alhambra road to Shoe Creek for some boulder fun but we only went in as far as the second water crossing....nice lunch at the Mountain View Market to cap it off...anyway, some pics I took I think Dan may have the action shots.....

Stripping off gear just off 60...I think Dan had his pants on at this point or not...

end of Tower Road...plenty of snow...looks cold, it was not

Just before the turn to Alhambra Rd...Dan the man...

Some color left in them thar hills...

Chuck & Todd coming down from Tower Road...

Yup, we got Todds bike dirty

Checking out Shoe Creek

Some nice camping spots out there...

Lunch....although Todd mentioned a Thai place close by....maybe next time...

My half eaten chicken sandwich....the others all got the club sammie....decent prices and tasty...Chuck did find desert...we all had cookies!

Bender Approves @327 miles

Thanks to Chuck for finding a way to avoid the brain washing run down 60

See Ya'll at the next one

8:25-So last night at I was so excited when I got home to see my boxes!!!

8:30-So I ran up stairs to change and in my rush I hit my knee on the strike plate in the closet...

8:36- Then had to shave it and bandage it...

8:40- finally in the garage and laid out my new parts...

8:45- surveyed the old parts on bike

8:50- removed stock crash bars

9:00- removed stock skid plate...

9:15- completed putting the new AltRider crash Bars on...Super easy!!!

10:25- Finally after going on-line & getting new direction(thanks for the direction skychs) I finally completed putting the Touratech Skidplate on...Awful directions in the package!!!

12:45pm - Saturday good thing I put the new Skidplate on before attempting Tower Rd...

Saturdays Ride

Dan, Mike, Todd .... Thanks for a great ride today. 300+ miles of pavement, twisties, Parkway, gravel, dirt, rock and highway. It was a pleasure. It was a little cold starting out but the day turned out to be perfect. The only regret was not taking my GoPro.

Tower Road once again took its toll on us. Another bent rim for me and two big hits to the skid plates on Todd's GS and Dan's DR650. Todd did a great job keeping the big GS right side up while Mike and Dan made it all look easy.

The low point of the day was riding back home on hwy 56. Just before Wingina VA there was a very bad accident involving a motorcycle. It looked like a group of sport bikes. Thoughts a prayers go out to who ever was involved. It didn't look good.

See you guys at Poe's in the morning then its off to the gun show. Have a great weekend everyone. Be safe.

Thanks to Chuck for organizing my first of many runs up Tower Rd and a short run around Shoe Creek. Also to Dan & Mike not only for their input, but the great pics they got along the way.

Next trip out we need to stop at that Thai restaurant or maybe it could be Fridays RTE ...

And yes Chuck we need to have the riders and their families involved in that accident in our prayers. Very somber 30 or so miles for me after passing the accident.

Thanks guys and I hope everyone has a safe rest of the weekend.

Fun ride today and great weather. Weird riding through snow when it's 70F. Couple action shots.

Poe's tomorrow

If you missed Chuck's reference, it's supposed to be really nice tomorrow. Come to Poe's for Bikes in the Bottom.

On a semi-unrelated topic, I'm meeting a friend for dinner somewhere near VMP on Monday night. Anything decent to eat down there? Petersburg? Suggestions welcome for local cuisine.

Thanks
Chip

I durn near killed my bike today. Came off a water bar with a little air and landed directly on the corner of a rock ledge with the skid plate. It jarred my bones. Looked down expecting to see a puddle of oil.

Caved in the plate pretty bad but by some miracle did not bust my engine case.

this use to be a small access hole for oil drain and that plug used to be safely recessed up in there. Just a hair to the left and that would've been the end for this motor. Still no sign of seepage, think I dodged the bullet.

Yeah bloochdog the Skid plate is nice how it wraps around the crossover pipe and extends back over the Cat...but it was a nightmare to install...

The AltRider Crash Bars are great also...they extend up and around the heads better than anything I found. They are also extremely easy to install...no lie it took 15 mins tops after I had the stock bars off. I think 7 of that was me reviewing the parts and directions twice.

I will have to say...This pic does not do that hit any justis!!!... That plate looks, in person, like it had been pushed up 1" and the drain plug is just sitting out there to be picked off.
