Also Check out the the East Texas 450 thread. Not that far and would be very adventurous on the 950. I spent last weekend over by Toledo Bend and there is some awesome sporty street riding. The dirt around Newton and Weirgate seems like more clay than sand but I didn't check it out.

Thanks for all the advice
Good ideas from all - thanks much.
I have some planing to do (I give it a 90% that); I'll have a bike, live near Katy, and aim for Nov 1st. I'll keep in touch. PS Let's think about a ride in Idaho for August - ever hear of Magruder corridor?

Hello!
Hey Texans,
I'm a former Houstonian who has spent way too much time in Minnesota. I'm heading back to the South next year - to Austin, this time. I'm hoping to "meet" some cool riders beforehand to make the move a little easier. Right now, I know one person in the Austin area, and he doesn't ride. I bought an '09 Versys in the fall of 2010; I've logged 44k+ on it so far. The ADV group in the Twin Cities has been awesome and I've made some great friends here. But I've been homesick since the day I landed on Northern soil. Yesterday I discovered that my grocery store quit carrying the salsa I like. It's time to go home. So hello! I'm looking forward to making new friends! TQ

![]() Welcome back, I'm up in Dallas but alot of great riding goes on in the Waco area. Just head North from where you are and look for a cloud of dust. You'll find some ADV riders that way.

ride invite
Just an open invite. My wife and I are camping up at Red River Motorcycle Park this weekend. Can't promise an epic adventure, but that place is pretty big and I find new areas every time I ride up there. We will be in a Puma Toy hauler. I'm not the fastest rider either, but I am finally getting new springs for the 500 and I hope I can take the trails a little faster and not bottom out all the time!

checking in
JD here, from Beaumont area which is severely lacking in the offroad department. Anyone know of any places to ride besides the forest and beach? Willing to travel, since not much open land to ride. Just got back from the Big Bend which rocked BTW, so everyhting around here looks pretty crappy now!

Name is Ben and I just moved here from Nevada. I live near Carthage, and ride a 1996 KLR650. Looking for good people to ride with that can kinda show me around, camp, hunt, fish. Thanks, and look forward to hitting the trail soon.

My first ride in TX
Thanks to grneggz for a very pleasant start to my TX experience. The route was incredible I can't imagine how that could have been put together. I had a good time. New riding buddies a dirt route new country and it wasn't cold!! (remember I'm from Idaho) Question is "what's next?" BTW I failed to have a camera on the ride- if I could get a pic or two I'd appriciate it.
Looking forward to the next ride.

San Antonio?
I am looking to find actual offroading around San Antonio, I will be down at SAMMC/Brooke Army Medical for a little over a month and want to have a couple of excursions. I have a highly modified F800GS. I am willing to scoot out about 100miles but not much further.
