It's not. But personally, when something comes loose, I like to reach for the welder instead of the closet for coathangers...

Better than twist-tying your exhaust system back up and leaving it like that til the hanger breaks and you need another...

I've seen it done with plain steel hangers, low melting point, just not very strong.

The only thing that coat hangers and proper ER70S-2 rod have in common is that they both melt. Coat hangers are made of the cheapest and nastiest steel alloy available.

Your missing my point. In a pinch. No its not a welding rod but it has worked for me more then once.

Coat hangers will let you gas-weld mild steel to cast iron, though.

Your missing my point. You braze with brass, you weld steel. I know people gas weld with coat hangers, but unless you have a brass coat hanger, you don't braze with a coat hanger. BTW you can weld plastic with a plastic coat hanger!
