Bangkok to Chiang Mai one way!

I am looking to go from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in late december. Me plus my girlfriend on the back. From Google it looks to be about 750km. 10-12 hours strait through. Might split it up in 2 days. I'm an experienced rider, and she has been riding with me for about a year. I am looking for a place that will rent a motorcycle for the trip. I don't plan on returning to Bangkok. Can anyone give me some good direction to who would be able to do this and any information would be great!

BKK-CM is an easy day trip, but the fastest route is also the least interesting.

Alternative routes that can be broken into a couple of days include going via Mae Sot and up along the Burmese border, or via Pitsanulok and Den Chai.

I think you are going to have a hard time finding a place where you can do a one-way rental in Thailand... I'm not aware of any rental shops that offer this service. You could try shipping the bike back to the rental company, which will cost you ~2000-3000 baht, but I can see some potential problems with such a plan...

Actually, riding out of Bangkok is nothing special, and in fact a bit miserable if you've never done it before and don't know how to escape the city. (Motorcycles are not allowed on the toll roads)

Much better to fly to Chiang Mai and rent a bike there imo.

Spend less then $100 for the flight (it takes an hour) then rent a bike once you get there. No hassle loads more time & fun.

Thanks for the info. We ended flying up and took 2 day trips north. Didn't get to far, but another trip is in the works!
