Yup. He took the KLR in July on the same trip. Now it's the Tigers turn.

A KLR on a toll highway! The rider would have to pass the collection-milk crate around at the toll-boothes. :)

Yup, there's plenty of areas missing. At least the app has been updated with bike rates. Cuerna to Xalapa - $300, Cuerna to DF - $47, Cuerna to Acapulco - $199 and surely interesting to the gringos, Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey - $110.

Nuevo Laredo to Monterrey has been 185 NP for at least 10 years so it does look like they raised the cuota some then halved it for MC's.

Maybe you are there and gone already. I have stayed at Quintas Papagayo just north of town a few times. I was with a group and they had large rooms. Don't know if they are still there or what they might have for a single. Looked 'em up... they are definitely still there. Corrected spelling above.

I'm planning on using this crossing in late January. Will get my TVIP and FMM here before heading south down Baja to la Paz then taking the ferry to Mazatlan.
Looking for info on parking lot security and how busy this crossing might be. If nobody has any info I'll post a report later

Border Crossing
San Luis Rio Colorado. Is that the one south of Yuma? I was thinking of crossing there but have no info on it. Where do you go from there? Large scale maps look like you have to go East or West on 2 to get anywhere else.

No first-hand experience, but I recall a couple reports over the past year from riders saying they had an easy crossing at San Luis Rio Colorado. They caught my attention because I was considering crossing there on my way to Baja from AZ, but I went through Mexicali instead since I was headed further west toward Canyon de Guadalupe anyway.

Hey guys,
I haven't been keeping up with this thread, so this info may already be out there- As of yesterday (maybe even longer) the tolls on the Toluca-Mexico City highway are now half price for motorcycles. I know a lot of you prefer to avoid the cuotas, but they do come in handy, especially if you're like me and often need to cover large distances quickly. |
