Since I'm living in Lille, I'll be glad to take him from Belgium :o)

Let's get him to europe if Canada is paralysed by the Winter. You'll get him back for the summer :o)

An update on Bacon.

Major life-changing situation has struck our family a few weeks ago. I'll I will say for now is major illness, with a massive corresponding financial impact. My prayer is that my family circle will still be complete by Christmas. Bike will be put up for sale shortly, will decide on what do with the gear.

Sorry to the extent that I've not been able to travel further with Bacon. That said, I took the initiative to get him here - sure if I can do it, other interested parties can show the same initiative for his continued travels. I'll make reasonable efforts to travel to the BC lower mainland to pass him along to another Canuck for further eastward travel and eventual re-visit of the US, or to wherever his travels will take him.

I'd wish to have more upbeat news - but right now, someone else needs to focus on Bacon.

Thanks,

CM

Just a thought here but with so many people wanting bacon ! Could we auction bacon of to the highest bidder for his next trip and the proceeds go to canadius maximus. This way bacon can get on the move again and it will help a fellow adv rider out a little ! What does everyone else think ????

Sorry to hear the news and hope things turn around for you.

I am sure someone will pop up and be willing to continue Bacon's adventures.

The 'rule' has always been that Bacon had to be handed over in person from one member to another. However i suspect the riding season is rapidly ending in Canada (if it has not ended already) so it would be a bit of a shme if he just sat there all winter.

At the end of the day rules are meant to be broken so I think the postal service can come into play !

Who is there in a hot location where people are riding at the moment and where Bacon has not been yet ? He started out in Australia, think he has done Japan, but there are a couple of guys in India on the list - are they still up for it ?

Or if he can make it back to the UK I can guarantee him the trip of a lifetime with a competitor in the 2013 Dakar before he moves on elsewhere ! (But I would need him on his way to me within a week or so).

Let's get our little Porker back on the road !

Hello fellow adv friends,

Thanks so much for all the kindness expressed here. In particular, to Jim P and MikJ. I have done nothing to deserve such generosity - even for just the idea - I am humbled in the extreme. And to ChrisK, to whom my reply was perhaps a bit sharply worded, even if it was honest, I suppose I owe an apology.

By nature, I am loathe to accept the help of others, much less ask for it - probably stemming back to army officer ethics/priorities of "1)mission/ 2)men/ 3)me". I used to view spurning help as a virtue - I am slowly learning that is merely a subtler form of pride. I'll not turn away help that is sincere - but wish no one be put out or inconvenienced on my account - especially as Christmas looms. I know it's a time when folks usually focus on their own families, and that's totally fair.

I'll check on the other thread - and see if we can move Bacon along. This is his thread, not mine! :)

Kindest regards to all,

Daniel

PS: RE riding season - I have commuted on my bike through December here - so long as there's no snow/ice, it's good. Rockies and Prairies, a bit of a different story - hopefully Bacon can push through one way or the other.

Wow. Bacon was in Lacombe, Alberta. That's ten minutes from here. That porker sure gets around.
