This may seem like a stupid question to you.......
.......but to us Brits it’s not because this is our first Thanksgiving. We know it’s Thanksgiving on Thursday, so what actually happens? Does everywhere close for that one day or do some have the Friday too? We’re travelling round the world on our sidecar and just want to be prepared regarding somewhere to fuel, stay and eat. Do hotels and campgrounds increase their prices for Thanksgiving? Will petrol stations and supermarkets be shut?
We’ll probably be in Oklahoma or Arkansas by then so is it the same in all States? Thanks for any info/advice.

Enjoy the states. Glad you are visiting & hope you have a great time.
Fuel & lodging should not be a problem nor eating places. Some stores will be closed all or half day. Much American football is played so many are watching the telly. Day before ( going to granny's for Thanksgiving day dinner ) & especially the day after, traffic will be a zoo, especially in cities. ( Crazy people killing each other to get to Christmas sales. ) Be careful and enjoy.

As Dragon states, you should be fine..all gas/petrol stations will be open. Some gorcery stores too will be open. most is not all walmarts will be open. Usually the only things that close for the holiday would be banks and govt offices.
Motels and restaurants/cafe's should be open also..be alert for traffic in the bigger cities the day before and after thursday as many will be trying to get back home after spending thanksgiving with family. Hope you have fun and have a safe trip thru the USA |

Hotels will be open as well as some large stores-Walmart opening later in day. The 24 hour pay at pump will work. Along interstate you will find plenty of services, but in small town in rural areas the mom and pop convienance stores will most often be closed. Friday will be back to normal as it is a huge shopping day- aka Black Friday - government offices will be closed however.

Only thing to consider is that public schools will be closed. This means the little rug rats will be out & about.
Try not to make eye contact w/ them. You might want to try some of the very special turkey. They were genetically designed to never fly & to grow big white breast & some how get full of bread, oyster, onion & mushroom stuffings. |
