I want that biuke in my garage. IMO, theres nothing better than and old Honda. I love all vintage Japanese bikes but there's something about them old Hondas...especially 1955-68 models

Time to get this thread up again...
Mounted a set of TKC80 today, looks badass and feels so much better on a forest service road than a bold BW502.

On the xlv forum recently a lot of effort has been made to put together in one place most, if not all, of the printed media that went with it at the time of the bikes release, tests etc. Dont know if it will work for you with out being a member of the forum, but that's easy enough to do anyway--- http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...print%20media/ cheers Graeme |

If KTM built something very close to this using a 750 version of their 990 motor I'd be all over it. A simple straight forward 750 V-Twin in a dirt oriented package with a decent sized fuel tank, I'd that so hard to grasp?

Looking for engine or heads for XLV750
Goodday to all!
I am looking for either a complete engine or the 2 heads, cams and rocker assemblies, who can help please? Another question: Is it possible to fit a XRV engine into the XLV frame? Somebody done it perhaps? Regards Willie willie@swanniebraai.com |

Looking at your URL I guess you are from South Africa? Where are you located? Perhaps the SA Africa Twin club can be of your assistance retrieving an engine. There are some lots for sale on EU Ebay sites too.

But he had the stock XLV750 engine. Maybe we are talking about the same guy? If it's possible to put a NTV650 engine in the XLV750 frame I would like to hear more about it! Greetings, Schelbi.

www.varaderointernational.smugmug.com I can't access them from the office, but the pics are made at the 20th XLV750R anniversary meeting in Switzerland, 2003. The bike was actually completely chopped. In my opinion, the Belgian owner demolished a perfect looking classic bike.

I'm sure you are taling about this bike: The engine is stock XLV750. Only swingarm and rear wheel are from NTV650. And the look is indeed terrible!

Idd Schelbi, that's the one! And yes, HORRIFYING don't you think...? During a short summer rainshower he had to put plastic coffee mugs in the exhaust to prevent flooding...
We where participating at that particular meeting on a Varadero (me) and a Transalp (my Mrs)

restoration in progress... finally...
Finally and with the help of a mechanic, his workshop and his tools I've picked up the pieces where I left the restoration of the XLV 3 years ago... With my trusty black XLV750RF as a model to figure out how to put the last pieces of the puzzle together...
I'm still not giving a forecast when the Red One is back on the road though, but things look good... ;) Some pics to share: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The carburettor is a different story. You guys might know that I did a cleaningjob with the original unit last year. But... it became that clean, that the corrosion of the material caused leakage of fuel along the seals. Finding another carburettor was more difficult as I thought. A guy in France who offered all kinds of XLV parts on the French E-bay, turned out to be a scammer. For other units, they wanted to have a top-price if they where made out of solid gold. The only proper proposal I received, came from ADV-collegue member Bell driver (thanks again, mate!) but lucky for me... I found a replacement just around the corner... In the carburettor of a '83 Honda 700 Shadow. The unit is practically the same as the original XLV unit, but the serial number is different. Most parts from the XLV carburettor can be exchanged with the shadow unit and besides the serial number, the only difference I could find was that the guidance of the choke cable is a little more narrow as on the XLV. The serial nr of the XLV unit is ADA (A) VF, the serial number of the Shadow unit is 7AA (A) UI7. Its a lot easier to get old shadowparts than parts for the XLV, cause in the '80s of the last century the (US) Shadow was brought in to The Netherlands from the United States by shiploads! I guess, same goes for engine parts... But I'm not sure on that. ![]() Left with orange label the Shadow unit, right the XLV unit.
