I like how there are springs. The minute there is a spring flexing you can say that the flexing of the spring creates heat (bend a paper clip back and forth till it snaps and feel the edge (warm yes). Since the spring flexes, heat is made, heat dissipates, hence there is loss energy and non-perpetual motion.
The windmill with the magnets is kinda close to what this guy has rigged up, ONLY, the magnets are not connected to the windmill, they are on a separate disc that moves in such a manner that it times the approach of the magnet to the track so that it is propelling the ball around the ring. Which is similar to using a sensor and electromagnets that are switched, in fact an electromagnet with a switch mechanism would probably be better even as you could feed power in to accelerate/decelerate the windmill. And since the windmill is on a shaft horizontally and balanced you could take power off that shaft to do work. Of course because feeding the power into the magnets isn't fully efficient, and there will be heat from electric current to dissipate, there will be losses, but it can do work.
That's an electric motor.
SOOOOO this device is essentially a mechanically activated very balanced motor with a smooth track and the repullsion set by the harmonics of a vibrating rod in the column. That will eventually stop. Perhaps if the sculpture is really clever the deflection of the persons walking around the gallery bending the floor can accelerate the device.. for more perpetual motion, like a kinetic watch.

My first read through your post I was starting to think to myself "I wonder if he knows he's describing a basic electric motor..."
You couldn't hear a dump truck driving through a nitro glycerin plant!

This is NOT CS&M
It IS a technical forum.
Is this enough of a warning?
• The hidden harmony is found with joy, while the obvious brings indifference.
• The farther you enter into the Truth the deeper your conviction for truth must be.
• There is understanding of the world precisely to the degree that there is understanding of the Self.
