Welcome!
[QUOTE=Schultz!; Two, i would like to post some progress of the project and shed some of my "lurker" status would it be better in a separate thread or would it be better to post em up in this topic?[/QUOTE]
Very nice Schultz, first post, bangin on the keyboard all drunk. That's never happened here. Post away on that project right here. (I assume you're talking XRL) You're going to fit right in.

Great stuff there thanks for the advise and i do remember vaguely trying to read up on and watch videos on technique. The ultimate problem again is me im 6ft 140 lbs with a small frame I get made fun of more for my size at work then the lard asses , I think most 9 year old girls have more muscle mass then i do and im not too keen on hiting the gym. To be honest i love the XR but if im realy gona think about playing offroad again and hone my skillset a old pos 80CC big wheel would give me much more of a "forgivable" learning enviroment. That being said the XR is slated to be a pavement pounder primarialy and have a post currently waiting mod review that will explain it a bit better

Yes she was a XRL but unless you know your Hondas it will be confusing as hell to figure out what she started her life out as. Stuck waiting on cash and parts so sitting at the comp all day cruising the sites.

Hose out the start button with contact cleaner. I had the same problem with the head light and on occasion the bike would crank but not fire. It would bump start though.

Smog Removal
Hey... I'm anticipating the arrival of my smog removal kit later today (according to UPS tracking) and just wanted to verify a few things before I tackle it... Probably gonna jump on it tonite.
First... Does everyone concur it is better to leave the oil separator on? Thank you to the few folks who responded a couple days ago advising me to leave it in place. What are the consequences of removing it? Second... If I leave the oil separator on the bike what do I do with the smog kit's main tubing... the tubing that runs from the smog kit to the lower end of the air box. The pics I've been studying on 4strokes.com says that when leaving the oil separator on to just discard the tubing. If I do that it will leave the tubing's connection at the airbox open... Is it ok to leave this open or should I plug it? If plug it... suggestions on a good plugger? Lastly... When sealing the block-off plates to the head do you all recommend high temp gasket sealer? Like this stuff... http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-81160.../dp/B0002UEN1A This is what I already have in my garage. Found or recommend anything that might work better? In response to the bikini chicks on the XRL's... Somebody needs to crop the face off the 2nd one and paste it over the 1st one's... Best of both worlds!!! ![]() Thanks guys! |

Leave the oil separator on. There is nothing to be gained by removing it. The hose for the separator goes from the engine case above the transmission to the separator and then the air box. Mr Honda put the separator on for a purpose. Don't mess with it. I have a buddy here at work whose bike is pissing oil all over the place when he parks it because the PO removed the separator. Truth be told I think the rings are bad in his engine there is so much oil coming out of it. Blow by is preasurizing the lower end and sending the oil mist to the air box. With the separator at least the oil would flow back to the engine instead of losing it.
The block off plates can go on dry. There are seals on the cylinder for the plumbing that stay in place.

Regarding the tubing... See picture #24 http://www.4strokes.com/tech/honda/xrlsmog/ It's the tubing coming from the bottom of the airbox vent... Where his pencil is pointing that I'm in question about. My tubing from the top of the airbox vent goes to the separator and then on to the top of the transmission... I'm assuming this tubing will stay in place. From what I can see... after I remove the smog pieces I'll be left with an open lower airbox vent. Maybe my kit will come with a large rubber plug... Like picture #19... And I need to plug the lower end of the airbox vent instead of the top end (like pic #19 shows)??? Makes sense??? Thanks! |

Plugging the lower port on the air box sounds correct but I don't have my bike near by to go look at.

That is right. I fabbed my own plug out of aluminum, but you will need to block this bottom port off somehow. |

Excellent... Thanks guys! Still anxiously awaiting the big brown truck. I just checked the tracking number and saw this message "An exception in the sorting process has occurred. UPS has taken corrective action." I guess the new verbage for error or mistake is "exception!" Who knows... might be tomorrow or Fri before I get to tinker.
