Anyone been to Nashville?

I'm starting to plan the "Rick's Official Yearly 2013 Motorcycle Trip (ROY2MT)" and could use some advice. It won't be a long trip, as we've got other travel that's going to steal my vacation time. :-(

http://goo.gl/maps/lIuaV

The idea is Home -> Knoxville (by way of Foamhenge) -> Nashville (by way of The Dragon) -> Stay the night -> Beckley WV -> Home. All back roads. No highways and no dirt. Just scenic riding. Probably July 17-21.

So ... two questions ... (1) any "must do" items while in Nashville? And (2) anything weirdness/goodness along my path that I should set sail for?

Great videos. Seems like a good amount of riding over there. I would think with all the side trails I saw in the video it'd take over an hour to ride everything.

FYI, my boy and I joined the Charles City Dirt Riders Club. They are still accepting 2013 applications. We joined as I want Gabriel practicing in a safer, more controlled environment, without trees, quads, two-way traffic and other riders under the influence. I'll take the DRZ the first couple of times out but it looks like I may need to save up for a dedicated hard core dirt bike. Having Gabriel show a desire to ride is a dream come true for me! I hope this leads to a lot of weekends riding together for many years! (especially the tough and akward years between 13-25!)

See link for details: http://www.ccdirtriders.org/

Now you tell me..

I missed the line to go around, and those big pigs don't roll back worth a crap. So it was the lesser of two evils believe it or not. Picking lines around those holes was like trying to navigate a maze, one wrong turn now and your screwed 50 yards down the trail.

Riding stuff like that on the GS is fun in a technical / challenging kind of way, which I really enjoy. It certainly isn't the right bike for single track if your looking for a fast / easy Sunday ride. There is also something pleasing about riding a bike non-stop to Key West, FL and then taking the same bike through a couple miles of single track and being able to enjoy both.

Really!? cuz this is what I remember:

We stopped under the bridge just before that section and said : "it's muddy over in that area, lets go this other way".. At which point Chuck/Andrew/Eddy eyes light up and immediately go hauling ass directly for it.

Unfortunately, it's a piece of shit. Went up about 1/3 of the way, and then ... pfft. Went down and won't go back up. Has oil. I bled the thing till my leg was tired. No go. Put it on its side and I can work the scissors action like the hydraulics bottle wasn't there. Moves completely easily. And of course, the nice girl from India was no help -- apparently they only do technical support by email, and there is a 24-48 hour lag time before an answer. Grrr.
wow..extreme bummer....

but as Guy noted...

I actually have never had one bit of grief from mine, and it has held up every bike I own so far over the last 4 or 5 years.... even the monster C14....
I got my lift used, from Kurt (KWN306) and I know he used it for a while to lift his connies , he tossed in an old one along with it with a leaky piston but even that one worked if you released it when it was locked in.....

maybe try the next one out in the store, before haulin it home.? that way you don't have all that cardboard to dispose of....

It was many pages ago and we were posting a lot at the time. I suggest you ask for an allowance in the price for a new skid plate if you negotiate with him

Not sure...probably a newer '11-12 (used) GS, maybe a Tenere, a Tiger, a hardcore dirtbike, not sure. I may just keep it and invest in some goodies like a real skid plate.

"New" bike purchase may be on hold as I also need to save some pennies as I am going back to the BMW school this Spring for the three day DS Foundations school...(somebody come with me, it will be a hoot!)
