I really like the idea of this race. I'm going to look into it more. Might be a fun way to spend a vacation.

Agreed! I wish I had the bandwidth in my life to pull this off right now.

Touring and long distance on scooters are a blast. You run into people every day who can't believe what you're doing, particularly when you tell them you're 1000 miles from home and you came all the way on the bike.
This looks like a lot of fun...kind of reminds me of what Sergei Belski does on his 300 Super... Very cool.

A couple of threads with conversations during the canonball between those participating and those encouraging:
Official MV 2012 thread: http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic97...ight=canonball 2012 rules thread: http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic75...ight=canonball Offiicial MV 2010 thread: http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic71...ight=canonball They changed the rules this year and you cannot have a scooter with more than 250cc for 2014 see http://www.scootercannonball.com/rules/rules-2014.pdf If your scooter qualifies, you can calculate your handicap here: http://scootercannonball.com/ Because of the rules change there are some other alternatives cropping up: http://scootergumballrally.com/ http://modernvespa.com/forum/topic106484 http://scootercannonball.com/forum/v...hp?f=38&t=2047 http://scootercannonball.com/forum/v...hp?f=38&t=2084 None of those are restricted by scooter size. |

Another scooter cannonball in May, 2013 - all sizes welcome
I've competed in the Scooter Cannonball and it's a blast. However, on the odd numbered years when the SCB isn't run, there's no cross country scooter competition available. That's one reason that Alan Spears and I created another one, "The Real Cannonball" (TRC) which is a bit more extreme than the even year ride. TRC starts and finishes at the same places that the "original" cannonball of the 1970's that was created by Brock Yates and Dan Gurney. A no holds barred, balls-to-the-wall run from coast to coast, open to all displacements of scooters. There's even a class for motorcycles - modern bikes to 250cc's and vintage bikes up to 360cc's. More info is available at www.therealcannonball.org..

That does look like fun. Totally different from a Harley run. Wouldn't mind doing that myself.
That Roswell is something else isn't it? I rode there from Phoenix, AZ and back on my Vino 125 a couple years ago. I have not been to Show Low, AZ on a scooter, my Vino won't climb the mountains, and it's a little farther than I would want to take the Stella without a rescue plan for when it broke down.
