In the same situation! Have 2003 XR400 since 2006. Got XR600 1996 less than a year ago. The 400 has SM setup as well....

Both set up for adventure.

Upgrading (???) to electric leg soon (690 or DR650).

I ripped mine off this summer. Here's what I did to repair the hole that was left in the frame.

How big are your hooters ?? And checking account balance?

Sadly, the 400 may be on the chopping block I was looking for a plated one when found these two. They do their own thing better than the 400, but the middle weight does it ALL better though

Question Question for the experts

Was looking at this bike on CL and wanted to get some feedback on how much you think it would cost to get it fixed.

Supposedly that type of failure isn't the gear itself, it's the transmission shaft that the gear rides on.

If that's the case, it'd probably cost well over $1000 if you rolled the bike into a shop. Maybe $300 in parts and a few weekends work if you do it yourself. That's if you can resist the urge to do anything else while you're in there.

If it's really the gears or something on the kickstarter shaft, it's an easy afternoon fix for maybe $100 in parts.

IMO not even close to being worth it unless you want a project.

Did anyone ever put in a XR650 swing arm in a XR400?
I would like to have mine a bit longer, a XR650 has a longer wheelbase and i was thinking it could be a longer swing arm.
Or are those the same length? And would it fit (only in the frame the rest is easy to modify)..

Lots of parts there worth the price but there are several details pictured there that make me think it was owned by a doofus. Or multiple doofus types. Still a lot of valuable ebay parts though. If I was closer it would be in my shop.

Hey guys silly question - do XRs come with braided lines stock?

Mine has braided but also some plastic tube over it (that has cracked and almost fallen apart)

I am trying to figure out if thats stock, because I couldn't come up with a reason that someone would do that to regular braided line???

Thanks

On the front?

It keeps the brake line out of the wheel.
