The sport is healthier than it has been; still down thanks to the economy, but we're seeing 5-6 brands at the miles, and 3-4 brands at half-miles. Short tracks are all production based bikes now, which kind of sunk the framer part of the market.

With that said, to really make it fun, I say we take the brakes off and have at it. No?

That was pretty much what it was back in the early 70s, pre-LTS. Most short trackers were stock frames. The CRs, TMs, MXs, and the rest. 19" front wheel and decent shocks. Frames came about more when suspension started going to 8-10" travel. It was less costly back then. Some racers had Champion frames and such, but most were stock/stock modified.

As for the Kawasakis, maybe ugly, but functional. The thing is the whole bike costs about as much as building the XR engine alone and the Kaw engine can be run pretty much most of the season without having to tear it down to look for engine damaging wear from what I've read. That's good for the sport, a reasonable bike to race as a privateer. No longer is the high buck XR the only way to go. A crashed out Kaw 650 sets up the potential for a racer. That's cool.

The cool part for short track is the vintage racing along with the MX bikes. It is fun to watch either/or, plus some classes mix them up too.

A proverbial "cute as a speckled pup" motorcycle.

Funny I have a different opinion on that very bike, especially after he drove into me in turn one in Volusia. It didn't look that good laying on the ground with pieces splattered all over after that

Forgot, I had a couple more. I'm on the #1 white Yamaha.

A split second later as he's climbing up the back of my bike

Crash2

I stayed up, he was a little less fortunate

crash3

The pretty little Sprint looking worse for wear with half my rear tire stuck to his front end.

The first picture has you looking to exit and he is looking at your right shoulder.

Luckily he hit me behind the foot peg and I reacted quick enough to push down and gas it. Otherwise we'd have both been on the ground.

Thanks! Pretty simple. 83 was the year I was born, and K is AMA's code for Iowa.
