It's got an odd provenance in the SD area, but I picked it up from a fellow SD adventure rider (local forum) in El Centro, CA. It's been registered non-op since 2000, so I've got some work to do to get it up to snuff. It runs well, very well; I just don't want any problems with parts that have degraded from sitting for 12 years.

what's your plan for the roadbook mount? are you gonna strap GPS to it as well or use a ram mount off the bars?

I'm hooking up the ICO to the roadbook tower today.

I could not find the magnet that the stock ODO is using as a pickup. Is it one of the bolts that holds the rotor on?

I used a metal grommet to test each bolt to see if there was any magnetic activity- but could not find any difference in them.

I'd rather not mess with epoxying a magnet onto the wheel.

Anyone have any advice? or am I missing something.

Doesnt your stock speedometer/tripmaster have a handlebar switch or ability to put one on??? What im getting at is cant you use the stock speedo for navagation? I used my 03 Speedo that on the trip 2 function where mileage can be adjusted up or down when needed.

Just add a Bolt on the side where you removed the 2nd dic from. Run your ICO down that fork leg and mount the
pick up.( that is what I did last year )
I had the stock unit + (1-ICO) + (1 Trail Tech Endurance) worked OK
This year I will run the stock unit + (2-ICO) units for my old eyes

OK- I can do that.

That makes it easy. Now to find a nice magnetic bolt.

Good question. I did not know about the stock odo function. I just went with the setup that Santa sent me from RMS.

I'm just about done with the setup. I just need to make a decision about how to hardwire in these components.

There is a dedicated molex pigtail for GPS/Roadbook on the stock wiring harness.

Anyone have objections to tying into that circuit? Or would a dedicated fuse protected circuit be recommended?

I don't know about the 640adv, but the KTMs I've seen have all had the magnet in the rotor itself, it's not one of the bolts. It's in the corner of one of the cut out areas and retained by a little circlip.

thats on the smaller 270mm rotors used on 450s 525's and 625 sxc's where the pickup is in the caliper mount.. I have onel like that.. the larger 300 and 320 mm used on LC4s and adventures have different pickup setups

My setup inculdes two IMO's. I wanted to have one pick up magnet on each side in order to make sure that if one side gets damaged I do not loose both pick up magnets.

I have used a man made bracket that bolts behind the rotor bolts (in the inside of the hub) and there I use an M8 Touratech screw magnet. That is on the brake side.
One the other side, I just drilled and tap the hub and put the pick up in the fork bolts using another man made elbow plate.

Can take some pics if you want to show the assemblies.

Of course as BajaDad said, if you have the second disc removed it is very easy to bolt a magnet there. Very nice and clean.

Although you can make your own if you are mechanically inclined with better magnets that do not demagnetize so easy over time ...

Looks like it would work.

Remember to check the clearance with the brake caliper. The bolt clearance is very tight. The Touratech magnetic bolt for example would interfere with the break caliper
