Yep, that made absolutely no difference at all.
![]() Good news is the issue is predictable and repeatable. Now just to wonder why. ![]() Ran 15 minute idle test - puuuurrrrfect. Cut it off, put on the helmet start and stall. When temps hit 3/4, choke and puke. Here's what happens

My thought on this is that at temperature, the valve clearance is so minimal, that at certain circumstances, the combustion of the engine happens while there is still a slight opening in the intake valves, and the energy follows the path of least resistance and blows off the throttle body. Just my theory... But, it might be worth a shot to take a measurement of your intake valves. Mine hasn't happened once since my "fix." |

My voltage spikes were above 15V but only for less than a second. Cycling the ignition ket seems to reset the issue until it occured again. I switched to a MOSFET RR and runs great now.

Ha. Yeah. I bought a V-Strom 1000, and it has a ridiculous lean surge (EPA mandated, have to add a PowerCommander to make it run right), and an un-believable clutch chudder at low-to-mid RPM. Makes me wish I'd bought a Wee.

My opinion is given after 4 years of ownership. feel free to cut down any bike you've owned, I wont say anything about your opinion, provided you do it in the correct forum. I sincerely hope your bike holds up, but after 6 years in production and a lot of the core issues with this bike have not been fixed by the factory, I call that shitting the bed for sure. It can be a sweet bike, I was just voicing my frustration of another part fixed to have something else die. I wish I could say with proper maintenance that there are no issues, but I change my oil religiously and my valves had just been checked when I went on a 5400km trip this summer to have the top end blow and leave me stranded on the side of the highway. Who knows, maybe I got a Monday morning special. |

Same here. Had an '03 1000, and aside from the chudder, idle hammer, and lean surge it was a good ride. PC fixed the surge. SV1000 clutch fixed the chudder, and I just leared to live with the idle hammer. Oh, yeah... SV calipers, and master cylinder got the brakes working right.... Now I have a 2012 DL650A, and LOVE it!! Not as 2nd gear wheelie happy as the Vee, but I'm showing high 50's for mpg's so far. EVERY bike has something that needs fixing... The 690 has maybe more than most, but it's by far one of the best all around bikes I've owned.

Mine did it too. 2012. I think it was because I was being impatient, and blipping the throttle to quickly while starting. I have been sure to keep my hand off the throttle when starting since, and have not had a repaeat...
