Dyna Beads??
In preparation of bringing home my new Ural in a few weeks, I'm trying to put together my spare parts collection to take with me (spark plugs, tubes, etc.). I haven't had a bike in almost 8 years and when I started looking at replacement tubes, most of the sites that I found them on give you the option of a plain old tube or a tube with Dyna Beads (or similar product). I've never heard of them before, is it worth the extra few bucks to get tubes with these things in them or is it just a way for the dealers to make some extra money? I don't mind if it's actually worth it (the description of them kind of sounds like it).
Thanks! |

The PO of my Ural put it in, feels strange turning a wheel when jacked up. I expect to dump them if I get around to swapping rims or have to change a tire.

do some searching around on this site; there's been tons of discussion on them, but the responses you've gotten so far would pretty much sum it up; some folks like them, some folks don't.
(they've worked well for me on both Anakees and TKC-80s). cheers!

I swap tires on my GS and GSA rig all the time. Have always used DynaBeads and have never had an issue with them.
Traditionalists hate em without giving them a try.

Does a Ural go fast enough to need the tires balanced?

My Ural would only do freeway speeds when I was wringing it's neck. But, to listen to all of the 2wd arguments around here, no one rides their Ural anywhere except in gnarly off-road conditions or in 2 feet of snow. Neither riding of those conditions would require tire balancing.

Would Ivan balance the tires of his Ural? I don't think so...
I've never balanced the tires on my old KLR or Ural. So far, no reason for it... |

I really didn't notice a difference after I added dyna beads to my strom. I used them another time and thought they worked....so essentially I have no idea.
I don't see the need to use them on the ural

Do deer alerts work?
I have some elephant repellant if anyone is interested. Guaranteed to work at least eighty percent of the time for most people. . Just kidding...I do feel that dyna beads work. Have not used them on any of my own stuff yet but many who come into the shop think a lot of them. Heck, try it and see what ya think. By the way we are contemplating having some newly designed skid plate grease on the market soon.

Yeah, Dyna Beads work to balance tires.
Once you have decided that you want your tires balanced, I think having them already in your spare tube seems like a good idea. If you went with traditional balancing, you would need to get the tire back on the bike in the exact same position should you need to change a flat on the side of the road. If you had to change the tire, your balancing would be lost entirely, and might even be making things worse with the new tire. With the beads, none of that is an issue. If you decide you don't need the tires to balanced, then they are a waste of money. |
