Dealer called and wanted to know if I'd be interested in a new 2012 Laramie...fully loaded. I told them I was waiting to see the 2013 Penastar.

....Long story short, they asked that I come in for a look.
what a nice truck and I think a decent price....they offered me the 52k Laramie for 37,500k.

That's a pretty grunty motor--smooth too. My dad has that in his durango.

Pretty sure you could get the '13 Pentastar CrewCab for about that money if you don't get too fancy with your options. Plus 5 more mpg and a better interior.

About a year and a half ago, we were mini-van shopping and stumbled across a new 2011 VW Routan because they were offering $10,000 off of the MSRP. We got it for $22,590 brand new on a cash deal, no trade, no haggling, etc.

For those that don't know, the VW Routan is twin to the Dodge Grand Caravan; Chrysler just throws some VW grills on a Caravan like every other Friday or something.

It came well equipped: power driver's seat, heated front seats, leatherette interior, 6 disc CD change, dual power sliding doors, etc.

Anywho, 2011 was the first year Chrysler offered the Daimler-designed 3.6L VVT V6 (6-speed auto with manual option mode).

We have been pleasantly surprised by this engine: 283 HP, 0-60 MPH in under 7 seconds, as high as 32 MPG on a highway trip, the worst we have gotten around town is 22 MPG, and did I mention that it tows with a vengeance?

I have heard good things about the 3.6L VVT V6 in some of Chrysler's cars, too. And it looks like they have massaged it and coupled it to an 8-speed for the RAM 1500. Again, it is a pretty sweet motor.

I love my '11 ram 1500. The 5.7 is fantastic, but the problem is its a little too much fun around town. If I never did anything but drive n the highway I'd probably be able to get 22 out of it, but honestly around town it's more like 15-16.

Thumb How do you like it now?

[QUOTE=Elburrito;19939170]here she be sitting in my driveway

Now that you've had it for a couple of weeks, what do you think? Is it as thirsty as your old Honda? What kind of mileage are you getting with it?

I've thought getting rid of my Jeep Compass and getting back into a truck again, but am afraid the inner Scotsman in me will hurt too much every time I fill it up.
However the deals that RAM is offering now is making the thought more tempting than ever.

As expected, it's a little more than the honda, I'm keeping track of the km's per litres and as the dealer said, it's getting better with each tank. The tank is 120 litres and I got 758km on that tank...that was 107litre fill up. Apparently, once you hit 5-6000km's it improves the most. The honda, I could drive it to 600km's for around 80-85litres in the summer, in the winter I would get 500km's per tank max.

Wow, maybe instead of calling the PenStar they should call it the FtKnostar.

When this thread percolated up I priced a bare bones 1500/V6 and its price was low enough to go hmmm.

Now the pricing is out for the Penstar. Bare bones, not even a CD player. I checked spray on liner and a few towing upgrades
Ridiculous pricing.

Funny you mention that. A friend of mine is looking at a new one and was asking me about the pricing I got on mine, when I checked the MSRP on the same truck, base MSRP was almost 7k more than the 2012 base MSRP for the Laramie, mind you they are offering a 8k factory discount....which then brings it back in line with the 2012 MSRP. Funny how they work the numbers.

Regarding the Penestar, the Canadian RAM sight won't let you build one with 4x4....
