I had that red one. My first new bike. Started with a used trail 90, moved on to my brothrs used CL 175, the I got the SL. I loved that bike and do not remember it being vibey below 70 mph. Now I have a very old cheap one in my shop waiting for me to bring it back....and I will.:)

My current SL350K0 as purchased. Not running.

Coupla weeks ago. Motor has been bored out to 362cc, has high compression pistons, 34mm Mikunis, 1-1/2" exhaust into Supertrapps.

Also, the head has been ported, back-cut valves, Megacycle TT grind cam, electronic ignition, Dyna coils.

Motor makes pretty good power now.

Currently have the final drive ratio at 2.53:1. CB350 was 2.25:1, and later SL350s were 2.625:1.

I consider this bike an excellent back roads prowler. She can handle gravel and dirt roads just fine, and has plenty of power in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears while navigating hilly, twisty roads.

With the current gearing, she will easily pick up the front wheel in 1st, but not in 2nd. 50mph is 5500rpm in 5th, and it's relatively light, so it's not a comfy highway cruiser. Off-road, she doesn't have the power-to-weight ratio and suspension of a modern thumper, but she can still get you there:

As for parts; many are interchangeble with the ubiquitous CB350s. There are a lot of used, NOS, and aftermarket replacement and speed parts still available. Mufflers and NOS steering dampers command a premium, and good tanks, side covers, and fenders will continue to become more rare, as they are specific to each SL model change. i.e., a K1 tank will not fit on a K0, etc.

I have to laugh when I see an old SL350,not because they weren't good bikes,but how many of them were chopped in the 70's

Between the XL's, CL's and the SL........ the SL is truly the fairest of them all.

I always loved the old SL's of any size. Back in the early 70's when I had a lowly CL100 I thought that if I only had an SL125 I'd be king of the world.

Sure! The cylinders were bored out to 67.5mm. The pistons are from Todd Henning Racing, and provide a compression ratio of 11.5:1. You don't have to modify the head or valves to use these pistons, and you can run on normal premium high-octane gas, but you do need to use a solid copper head gasket.

I've played around a bit with front and rear sprockets to get a final drive ratio I like. Because of the light weight and small displacement of the bike, and the lack of signals, it really isn't a good choice for a highway cruiser, so my goal was to gear it for maximum effectiveness on the twisty, hilly back roads around here. It currently has 15T and 38T front and rear sprockets, which keeps the RPMs near the cam's happy place, and allow it to really jump to life with a flick of the throttle.

When I was a kid, these things were the coolest bike on the road I thought. They were ADV bikes a couple of decades before the idea caught on.
Never owned one, wish I did.
